Splatoon puttin' in work, hardware not so much. UPDATED 12:20am EDT

The NPD Group has released their results for June's US sales, and Nintendo is doing well in one area.

In the combined formats software chart, Splatoon ranked 5th this month, and Lego Jurassic World (including its Wii U and 3DS releases) finished 3rd. Nintendo has confirmed to Gamespot that Splatoon has sold 290,000 copies in the US in June, and 455,000 from launch to July 4 (the end of the reporting period). The numbers are combined physical/digital sales.

Hardware continues to be a struggle for Nintendo, as their PR statement for the news was that the 3DS was up 40% year over year, and 3DS + Wii U combined were up 20%. Based on approximate sales, this means about 132k for the 3DS and 57k for the Wii U. The Wii U number is especially down from last year, when the system had its best non-holiday month ever on the heels of Mario Kart 8.

UPDATE 12:20am: Estimates have been updated, putting the 3DS down to 123k and the Wii U up to 70k.
