Minecraft Still Possible On Nintendo Platforms

Mojang's COO says it just hasn't happened yet.

According to the chief operating officer of Mojang, it is still possible for creation phenomenon Minecraft to come to Nintendo platforms despite being owned by Microsoft.

COO Vu Bui spoke with MCV UK at the London Minecon event last weekend, and rejected the notion that Microsoft's multi-billion dollar acquisition would prevent Minecraft from continuing to add platforms: "If I had my way, we’d be on everything," When asked about Nintendo consoles, Bui said "I’ve never heard a reason why we haven’t ended up on Wii U or 3DS. It just hasn’t happened yet."

Minecraft's console versions have sold over 30 million copies on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PSVita to date.

I don't understand the appeal of Minecraft at all. I watch my daughter build and build for hours without ever actually playing anything. It's unbelievably pointless and boring. But, that being said, the kids on Miiverse beg for it incessantly. And its construction mechanics would be a natural fit for the GamePad. But it is already available for everything else under the sun, so it's not like it could suddenly help selling millions of consoles for Nintendo.

broodwarsJuly 10, 2015

Cue the inevitable quote of Reggie saying Nintendo doesn't think Minecraft is fun anyway in 3...2...1

At this point, though, does it even matter that Nintendo doesn't have the modern era's glorified LEGO knockoff?

MythtendoJuly 10, 2015

I've never seen the appeal of Minecraft. I've tried playing it and was so incredibly bored. It's not a fun game. If others want to play it, fine. But that doesn't make it a good game, and I find it funny how a boring and interesting game can sell so well.

ejamerJuly 10, 2015

My opinion about whether Minecraft is fun or not doesn't matter, but I do have a question:
Why would it even matter now?  Wii U is dead in the water, everyone knows it, and anyone even mildly interested in Minecraft has found other ways to play.

Ian SaneJuly 10, 2015

My attitude is that Minecraft is on everything else and is massively popular so it should be on Nintendo systems.  I don't think it matters NOW but the phenomenon of games showing up on every console but Nintendo's is inexcusable and I would be upending tea tables over it if I was calling the shot.  Hell I'd be throwing the tea tables through the windows.

The Wii U doesn't need it.  Maybe the NX will if the game is still popular.  It won't sell systems but a big game like this that is on every other platform needs to be on Nintendo's, no excuses.  The Minecraft window has closed but they have to make sure that the "next" Minecraft, whatever that turns out to be, doesn't specifically leave Nintendo out.

ThePermJuly 10, 2015

I'm pretty sure there had at one point been some exclusivity stuff. That should be pretty well gone at this point. Notch has left the company since they were purchased by Microsoft. I pretty much played Minecraft for one solid year, the only reason why I stopped was issues with the people that ran our servers.  Shyguy and I used to play regularly. It is an extremely social game.

When I started playing it, there was no survival mode. You didn't have to eat to stay alive. Eating to stay alive adds some extra play mechanics. But lets start and explain how Minecraft evolves to the player.

You start off with Nothing. No items in your possession. Night time is fast approaching, if you don't take care of your business soon than the zombies will come out. You have to make a shelter.  If you don't you will surely be devoured by the undead.

Well you get your shelter done, you wait out the first night and then you can work on being more diligent. You can build a more comfortable place so that its easier to survive. But now you want to make some fancy stuff, well, you're going to have to work for it.

I start digging. I want castles made out of diamonds, so this is going to take a while. One thing that happens is you dig down and then you discover there are elaborate cave systems. The problem with digging down is you have to have an ample source of light. If you don't create light than Zombies and skeleton bowman start spawning.

At this point, unless you cheat and look online you don't know anything. Its much more fun to experiment on the crafting side than to look it up. I spent a lot of time digging for coal. I need them for my fires. I want good clean stone and glass. Mined coal is better than coal made from plants.

Eventially you construct a huge castle, an elaborate mine system, a garden of apple trees. You're set.

Next step. Meet people online.

This is where it gets really fun. If you go on a good server there are lots of people building their own projects. It can be fun to just walk around and see what people have built. I started in a valley. This valley eventually became Permville. Shyguy was around to see it grow from shack in the middle of the woods to the megacity that it became. It basically offers you the freedom the Pioneers had when they were constructing their first city.

So, you build a huge town, well you're not the only one doing that. Then you build a railroad to link towns. You have people move into your city, you tell them where they can build, they build towers and their own castles, and brownhouse subdivisions.

that was the monument I built to our beloved forums Shyguy. The tower in the background was built by Shyguy. He had like a nice little peninsula that went by the permville to mainland bridge.

Built this for real. Mined the diamonds, no cad help. Just planned it out slowly. Used economy/trade/ and mining to get the materials.

u should play sometime!
Survival or Minez(Great game) only!

StratosJuly 12, 2015

I miss playing Minecraft with you, Perm. Ever thought about getting a server going again?

Different strokes for different folks. I had a blast in both the survival and creative modes.

WahJuly 13, 2015

I would join your server! ;D

ThePermJuly 13, 2015

I would, its just my computer crashes 5 minutes into minecraft every time now. I used to do a little better in multiplayer because server side used to handle all my lack of computer prowess. I can always give people my data. I have it backed up in quintiplicate.

ThePermJuly 13, 2015

i also have the Desert Island Survival for wii u. It is almost a perfect clone except theres no sustainability built in. Its playing the game on hard mode constantly. If I can just plant some mango trees we would have that solved. Ladders would be nice. And I hate that my mines are flooded when I save the game and come back.

StratosJuly 13, 2015

I was very interested in Desert Island Survival until I found out there was no multiplayer.

Did the cube game on 3DS have multiplayer?

Guys, Minecraft would need something to differentiate the Nintendo versions.  You know, to revive interest.  You know what I'm talking about:

Amiibo support.

WahJuly 14, 2015

skins? maybe?

ShyGuyJuly 14, 2015

Oh man, that's it. I should ask Chris and see if he has the rest of the server somewhere. I had stuff built all over the map.

WahJuly 14, 2015

yeah but wouldn't it be really outdated now with all the new blocks?

ThePermJuly 15, 2015

WahJuly 15, 2015

it downloads as a rar could u change it to zip because it doesn't work otherwise

BiteThePillowJuly 16, 2015

I always think to myself that Minecraft is extremely boring and pointless. I only play for my six year old son on multiplayer. But then I find myself not wanting to quit. Our multiplayer games go on for hours sometimes and I could just keep going if I didn't willfully pull myself away and tell him we've had enough video games for the day. I'm thinking that Minecraft Story Edition is really going to hook me in when I comes out. I can only hope for a 3DS release. I have it for Vita, but 3D games will always take preference for me over the higher def Vita versions. Dat New 3DS

WahJuly 19, 2015

the map is amazing I really love the giant ass ROB, your map is the only thing ever that has made my minecraft crash that's how big it is guys.

ThePermJuly 20, 2015

were you near the netherbrick cthulhu?...they changed the game while I was working on that. I dont think thats actually possible in game to have that much netherbrick together. I should mc edit that thing to be like green wool again.

ThePermJuly 20, 2015

I still don't own the game on any platform, so if it had online then I'd buy it.

WahJuly 21, 2015

um, did you seriously just ask if minecraft had online?

StratosJuly 21, 2015

She's referring to the theoretical Nintendo version. If that one has online she will buy it.

I would gladly buy it again on a Nintendo platform. Pointer controls + gamepad touch screen would be awesome.

All this Minecraft talk makes me want to hop into the game again. But I know I'll just get sucked in again and I don't have the time...

WahJuly 21, 2015

play with me stratos...
Minez pretty fun if you're sick of normal minecraft

ThePermJuly 22, 2015

well, a week ago i downloaded a new launcher and new version and well, it runs great again. So I've been playing on one particular server all week. I'll build a guest house. You guys can start clearing trees.

PLAY.STONERBROS.ORG
or
survival.stonerbros.org

its down right now....figures. The Coords are  x:1212  z:2210
It also could be they banned me because they thought I was cheating, but being an advance player I just become a rich person quickly. Let me know if its up for you.

ThePermJuly 22, 2015

update. Server is just down. Hopefully our data isn't lost.We definitely should start a mega build soon. 4 people can clear trees so fast.

StratosJuly 22, 2015

I'll get rolling on it this weekend. Been itching to build a new rail line.

ThePermJuly 22, 2015

I'll try to game the economy. Cactus farming is where its at. Its $230 for 32 Cacti. I've been getting $1500 for selling my cacti and growing exponentially. Cacti and sugar Cain are great because you get 3x what you plant. In about 4-5 weeks I'll be a server millionaire. I wish I was that good at real life. I'm growing cacti, selling them and then buying extra territory. I'm going to redstone automate the process. Then we'll just hit a switch, collect, sell, plant.

When I get enough money I'll buy you a bunch of rails for the rail system.

StratosJuly 22, 2015

Railroad Tycoon: Minecraft Edition

Any word on when the server comes up?

How does this territory purchasing work? Could we buy up enough land for everyone?

ThePermJuly 22, 2015

you collect money in the server shop
then you can buy territory in the talk commands menu
you use a golden shovel and a menu pops up that lets you select the corners of your territory. Iv been doing contiguous territory, there is a way to subdivide it, but I haven't figured it out. I would try logging in tommorow.

My current place has a large skyscraper on a hill. There is a dangerous minehole of the type that I always make. Just a straight down 8x8 hole. It extends downhill into a cactus farm. There is a sunflower plain near my hill. Which I will be putting Pagodas on. We should make the hills to the right our multi people area. If you want to get out of new permville  there are some interesting cliffs nearby. Again the Coords are  x:1212  z:2210

My stuff is on a hill where one side has been cleared out. Its mostly hilly birch tree area.

ThePermJuly 22, 2015

oh and the territory thing is only if you're worried about griefing. You can build anywhere not claimed. I have a rectangle of land claimed, but outside of the rectangle we should do the group thing. When I get enough money I'll buy that area too, and just add you to my /trust list.

StratosJuly 22, 2015

I wonder if we shouldn't pool our money together to buy up all of the land we want/need and then divy it up as needed. Sounds like a cool system. I'll try to check it out tonight.

WahJuly 22, 2015

computer's being repaired but when it's finished i'll play username's pretty obvious,

ThePermAugust 12, 2015

calling Shyguy a noob is lame. He's an old school vet. I vouch. He was an integral part of my old crew.

ShyGuyAugust 12, 2015

I made myself an burning effigy for trusting you with access to my land. I guess I play Minecraft a little different than most. I like to build smaller, well crafted fixtures that have a good feel. Maybe I'm too particular.

Hey, should we move this to General gaming or something?

Also, I'm sick of the mobs coming up from the mine behind my land. We need a fence or cover for the cave or a bunch of lights or something.

StratosAugust 13, 2015
