Also sales numbers and a Plague Knight update. For shovelry!

Beloved indie game Shovel Knight is getting a physical release.

Although originally a 3DS version was the only one rumored, Yacht Club Games will be self-publishing the game on both Wii U and 3DS October 13, at a MSRP of $20. The physical will have a full color instruction manual similar to the ones given to Kickstarter backers.

The game will also ship with the Pleague Knight DLC, which Yacht Club has said is coming "soon" and will arrive before the physical copies ship. To date, Shovel Knight has sold more than 700,000 copies across Wii U, 3DS, PC, Sony platforms and the Xbox One.

Wow, this is awesome news. :)

I wonder if having a physical release was a requirement from Nintendo to include a character in Smash Bros.  Probably not, but it's really cool to see them be able to launch a physical release.

It's nice how a few indy games are starting to get some retail releases. I may get this at some point, it could be a nice collector's item.

I have been meaning to check out Shovel Knight. I'll be on board this version since it has the DLC included.

Sold. I was waiting for an eshop sale, but this is even better.

Do you know how smart and cool it would be for Nintendo to reach out to an indie and release their new character as a playable character in Smash?

First, Shovel Knight is arguably the most popular NEW character created from an indie group in a long time.

Second, it would show real good will that Nintendo is willing to respect indie developers and help them create new and legacy characters.

Finally, I think Shovel Knight has cool move sets that COULD work in Smash.  The Helicopter Sword special would be a great recovery move.

I still desire Bomberman above all else though.

Yeah - I was the same. Would pay about $7 or $8 for digital because it's supposed to be awesome, but am much happier paying $20 (probably $25 in Canada?) for a retail copy instead.  That's just me though.
