"We have failed to curb its violent tendencies..."

Updates for both versions of Smash Bros are now live.

The update, which brings both the 3DS and Wii U versions to version 1.0.6, adds sharing of Mii fighters, stages and snapshots, nebulous balance changes, and support for downloadable content. Mewtwo codes have been distributed in most regions as of press time, and the codes are redeemed in the Notifications/DLC menu on the 3DS game, or through the "Enter Download Code" function of the Wii U eShop. Instructions for redeeming it can also be found here.

The 3DS update is 1388 blocks (approximately 173MB) while the Wii U update is 551MB.

I got my Mewtwo codes! Sharing the Wii U code with a friend.

Got it for my 3DS version (Mewtwo is pretty good in the game), will do it for the Wii U version when I get home from work.

Damn, and I just started do wnloading 1.0.5 on my New 3DS.

And not to soon, my Taco's SD card couldn't handle a 1355 block update and the Mewtwo download... :'(

I'm not seeing the update for my Wii U version.  What am I not doing?

SorenApril 15, 2015

If it didn't download automatically then you have to start the game up.

Thanks.  I opened the games a few times only to see that I was still on the earlier version.  Tried the eShop, but then that was tough to get in to (servers, I guess?).  Finally got the update to try after a few more shots at just opening the thing.  (Took two tries to get the download to start.)

So after playing as Mewtwo I must say they actually made him awesome.  Yeah he's still a lightweight and very floaty but any attack involving his physic powers are strong as fuck.  His Smash Attacks especially are insane and a fully charged Shadow Ball is very lethal.

Unlike his pathetic Melee counterpart, this Mewtwo is the real deal.

nickmitchApril 16, 2015

Yes, Melee Mewtwo is like the Mewtwo in the Genesect movie, while this Mewtwo is more like Mewtwo Strikes Back.

WahApril 19, 2015

Why release it as I code? WHAT! that's so bogus on so many levels.

The question should be why there wasn't one code for both - two codes were sent.

Looks like mewtwo doesn't have custom moves.

Seriously???

Spak-SpangApril 20, 2015

What?  They didn't go the extra mile and provide custom moves?  Seriously?  This shouldn't have taken so long to bring out then.  Seriously...it is basically just a slightly balanced and modified Melee character with a new HD model.

Mewtwo wasn't the only DLC character they've been working on.  Like the roster, all the DLC characters except the winner of the fan request would have been decided on long before their development even started.  Even though Mewtwo came out first, they've been working the other ones this whole time as well.

Plus Mewtwo in his current form is already messing with the games data and causing glitches.  They already found evidence of cut customs moves from Mewtwo as well which wouldn't surprise me if the DLC characters originally were going to get custom moves but trying to implement them was causing too many glitches so they decided it was easier to just not give them any.

The thing about these DLC characters is there's no data for any of them in the original versions of the games.  So suddenly just adding them into the main game for something as technical as Smash Bros isn't as easy as copy and pasting.

When do these codes expire? I've been lazy...

11:59 PDT on July 31. Though really, if you're not lording it over your friends who didn't use Club Nintendo what's the point?
