Shantae: Half-Genie Hero has reached its fifth stretch goal, in which an additional story mode will be added for each of three previously-NPC characters, Sky, Bolo and Rottytops. Each character will have their own reason for embarking on a quest across Sequin Land and will play slightly differently to the other characters.

Sky, the war bird trainer, will be able to summon birds to serve as platforms and gain extra height. Bolo will be able to attack enemies with his ball and chain weapon, while spunky zombie Rottytops will wield what is described as the power of the undead. Artwork shows Rotty throwing her own severed head as an attack.

The new game content comes as a reward to fans who have helped the project surpass $900,000 US dollars in funding, through the combined efforts of Kickstarter backers and independent pledges.

The three new characters, coupled with pirate villainess Risky Boots and Shantae herself, bring the game to a total of five playable quests. Should enough funding accumulate to reach the next stretch goal of $1 million, an entirely new level will be added to the game, along with the return of Nega-Shantae as a boss character and a new transformation ability for the titular heroine.
