The famed arcade classic will be making its way to the 3DS in Japan.

Arcade classic OutRun will be the next title to get the Sega 3D Classics treatment in Japan.

A logo for the upcoming title recently appeared on the Japanese website for the Sega 3D Ages (3D Classics) series. It will be the third title following After Burner II and Fantasy Zone Opa-Opa Bros. in the second set of 3D Classics releases.

While no announcements have been made about these titles coming to the west, Sega's Yosuke Okunari noted that they may be released if the first set of Sega 3D Classics (Galaxy Force II, Ecco the Dolphin, etc.) are successful overseas.

Originally released in 1986, OutRun lets players drive a Ferrari at high speeds and enjoy the thrill of the open road. Innovations at it's original release included the ability to choose music from multiple radio stations and branching pathways allowing for a non-linear driving experience. The game's creator Yu Suzuki has stated that Out Run is not a racing game, but instead a "driving" one.

I would call it an early "rally" game since the object is to make it to the next check point or finish line within the time limit.

Of course unlike rallying, other cars serve as obstacles to slow you down. XDD

I remember this game. It never was a top 10 favorite of mine but it was still a cool game. If the price is under $8 I might consider getting it, but we'll see.
