Ubisoft's European Gamescom trailer for the game ends with the words "Coming Christmas 2012 Exclusively on Wii U."
Ubisoft's Rayman Legends is set to be a Wii U exclusive when it releases. Ubisoft revealed this in their latest video trailer for the game, unveiled at the current Gamescom videogame trade fair in Cologne, Germany. The trailer displays the declaration "Coming Christmas 2012 Exclusively on Wii U" at the very end of the video along with a view of what could be the game's boxart. It shows off multiplayer gameplay utilizing the Wii U GamePad's potential for asymmetrical cooperative multiplayer (the ability to provide one participant special abilities and features they can use to benefit the whole group.)
However, even if the game is an exclusive when it launches on the Wii U, there is still the chance it could come to other consoles at a later date, making it more appropriately considered as a timed exclusive. At E3 2012, Ubisoft themselves were unclear over whether the game was a hands-down Wii U exclusive or whether there was a chance it might go multiplatform eventually. It's worth noting that the game's predecessor, 2011's Rayman Origins, was a multiplatform release.
