The title is landing in North America by the end of 2012.

Harvest Moon: A New Beginning will be coming to 3DS in North America by the end of 2012, as reported by a recent press release from Natsume.

The focus of A New Beginning lies in customization; for the first time in series history, players can customize their appearance as well as their farm. Outfits, facial expression, gender, skin color, hairstyle, and more can be customized.

The upcoming title marks the 15th anniversary of the Harvest Moon series in North America, as well as a general celebration of the series by Natsume throughout E3 and the rest of the year.

This game came out in Japan in February 2012.

Natsume Announces Harvest Moon: A New Beginning

Burlingame, CA. - May 29, 2012 - Natsume Inc., a worldwide developer and publisher of family-oriented video games, is proud to announce that Harvest Moon: A New Beginning will be coming to North America this year; a year which also marks the 15th anniversary of the Harvest Moon series in North America!

"We're extremely excited to be bringing Harvest Moon: A New Beginning to the North American audience," said Hiro Maekawa, President and CEO at Natsume. "It's hard to believe it's been 15 years since the first Harvest Moon game debuted on the SNES back in 1997! A New Beginning has many new customization features that will please both veterans of the series and new players alike!"

Echo Village has seen better days...  Just as you've moved in, almost everyone else has moved away to greener pastures. It's your job to bring everybody back by making the town appealing again, and giving Echo Village a new beginning!

Customization is King

For the first time in series history, you can completely customize your character's appearance! Choose your character's gender, skin color, facial expression, hairstyle, and much, much more! You even go to the tailor and have them make new outfits for you!

Don't like where your crops and barn are on your farm? Easy! Just pick them up and move them! Yes, it's really that easy to customize your farm in Harvest Moon: A New Beginning!

In addition to the ability to customize your character's and farm's appearance, you can also create tons of new additions for your farm, house, and Echo Village! Build park benches and topiary for the local citizens, a pet house for your farm, and exotic wallpaper and furniture for your house!  A New Beginning features new animals like llamas and yaks, new crops to harvest, and new characters to meet and woo!

I like the series, but with Animal Crossing 3DS coming out at the end of the year, I don't really have a reason to play it.

I am also excited for this. I wasn't a huge fan of the previous 3DS Harvest Moon, but this one sounds intriguing. As JD says, though, with Animal Crossing coming, and this game sounding like it does a lot of the things Animal Crossing is promising, with the town customization and all, it may not be the best timing.

That's because this one is actually a 3DS Harvest Moon. The last one was a DS port.

I know that, but that's not what I meant. I didn't really like the structure of that game, regardless of what the lead platform was. From the little I've read of this one, it sounds more like what I want from Harvest Moon. I really want to get my hands on it at E3.

I am perpetually hoping for a bland update of the Harvest Moon series. No touchscreen mini-games, no hokey social interactions (I'm looking at you A Wonderful Life). My favorites are the most vanilla of the series. The original, Harvest Moon 64, Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town. The GBC ones weren't bad, but they didn't have as much depth. I basically just want updated graphics. If they could add multiplayer elements, like a friend coming to your farm for awhile to help clear your fields that'd be cool too as long as they didn't botch it.

Yeah, I'm with HellsAttack on this one. I keep playing new Harvest Moons in the hope that they recapture the simple and non-complicated charm of HM64.
