Iwata: Wii U Lineup to Be Very Rich

Nintendo has learned their lesson from the Nintendo 3DS launch.

The Wii U will launch with several content-rich titles, Satoru Iwata confirmed in the financial briefing.

The Nintendo 3DS, which launched in March 2011, was perceived as having a less-than-stellar launch lineup. The overall performance of the 3DS led Nintendo to drastically reduce the retail price just a few months into the system's lifespan.

Nintendo is vowing not to make the same mistake with Wii U, promising a few rich titles right away at system launch later this year. Iwata stated that the full details of the Wii U launch, except date and price, would be announced at E3 2012.

I think this is the main reason they are not launching the system as early as some people want them to. It's a good idea.

I'm still chalking up the 3DS launch to poor decision making due to pressure from investors. Still glad to see Nintendo correcting the mistakes surrounding the launch.

Agreed. Nintendo shouldn't be listening to people who are telling them that they need to put Mario games on iOS.

Prediction... Dragon Quest X will be a Wii U launch title.

Is it possible that he's referring to retail AND e-shop titles?

It's possible, I think they did confirm that digital downloads will be available on launch day.

Methinks that was a given.

I hope so.

Now here's hoping they don't let the Wii U starve for years on end like they did the Wii

If they have good third party support, it won't be an issue.  The third parties will naturally fill the gaps on their own.
