3DS video download service is now available on Nintendo eShop.

Nintendo Video, a free 3D video service for Nintendo 3DS is now available in North America. The service was announced earlier in the day as "coming soon".

Once the application is installed, videos are downloaded automatically in the background through SpotPass. Videos are stored on SD card, but are permanently replaced each week with new content. The Nintendo Video player takes up 39 blocks, while the first four videos take up 2,439 blocks.

The first four videos available are Sunday Jog (3:42), an abstract 3D short by PassmoreLab; Dinosaur Office (1:49), a stop motion-style video from College Humor; a Captain America: The First Avenger movie trailer (2:32); and the Nintendo Video announcement video (0:22). Each video, except the intro video, includes a "Like us on Facebook" button, which launches a page in the Nintendo 3DS browser.

Nintendo Video began operations in Japan and Europe last week. The videos available are unique and restricted to each region.

That really wasn't that long to wait.

CericJuly 22, 2011

That really sounds disappointing.

KITT 10KJuly 22, 2011

I kinda agree that it sounds disappointing. BUT, it hasn't been out long. As I've said in, (must be about the 4th or 5th time now), some other posts, what they should do is make little cartoons with Donkey Kong, Mario, and/or other Nintendo characters. THAT'S what they should do with this app.

Out of the three videos I liked Dinosaur Office the most and the Captain America trailer is just so good though I feel that it doesn't need to be in 3D, but whatever. Sunday Jog didn't need to be in 3D either and I found it so boring I feel like it doesn't need to be on the service to begin with.

I can see Nintendo putting up commercials for games and hopefully some interviews with 3rd party developers. The other stuff like skits and shorts will just be hit or miss and the movie trailers will be great because those videos have been nothing but. I don't know, it really feels like Nintendo could do so much more with this. How does the North American content compare to the videos that Japan and the UK got?

Kitt 10K: I would really enjoy animated shorts with Nintendo characters, but I believe that Nintendo is permanently scarred from The Super Mario Super Show and Captain N that they will never go that route again.

What does this do that the eShop doesn't do already?  I get trailers and commercials from the eShop.

It will download content to the 3DS even in sleep mode. It has Street Pass support so you can actually get new content while you're out. The eShop already is already crowded with content. I had trouble finding the Nintendo Video announcement video yesterday so I don't mind video content being kept in somewhere else.

Maybe we'll get The Legend of Link's Distractions in 3D to go with OoT3D (it's made by CollegeHumor). Sure it's technically "NSFW" but damn is it funny and true :P

Now what they should have done is have like a store that sold the free videos and have you choose with to get. Or gave the
opportunity to use it as a video player to watch your own videos from the sdcard slot. and they should made it where you can watch youtube videos from the channel and view it using there format.

mario362July 22, 2011

Also they shouldn't limit it to 4 slots just download til you have more space then YOU  chose with ones to throw out. I'd really love to see the Super Mario World tv show or the super mario bros. super show even the adventures of super mario bros. 3 . it would fit in great with 3ds .Also the legend of zelda tv show. it could be 1 tv clip per day/week

Probably not, but I was a little surprised that all three of the first videos featured violence.

You can watch all that on Netflix right now on your 3DS.

Actually, no he can't. Only The Super Mario Bros. Super Show is on Instant Streaming, The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and The Legend of Zelda are not (in fact, right not SMW and LOZ are not even available in disc form either. This usually happens when people lose the discs and Netflix can't or won't order more).

I thought those were all on the same show. Well, at least the Super Show has Zelda. Two out of two is alright.

Ian SaneJuly 22, 2011

I remember when this was first announced it sounded like a useless idea that nobody could possibly be interested in... and I still feel that way.  People want to watch REAL movies and TV shows and that means something like Netflix which the 3DS already has.  If people just want to watch goofy little videos that's what YouTube is for.  If Nintendo is controlling the content, it just isn't going to have enough of a decent selection to make it anything but a neat novelty at best.  The whole thing just seems like a complete waste of time, effort and money on Nintendo's part.  It comes across as kind of arrogant, too.  "We at Nintendo are so awesome and beloved that we can create our own version of YouTube where we control all of the content and people will love it!"  Um, okay, that is incredibly delusional.

It seems more like a Sony idea though with their film library it would make more sense for them to be the ones doing it.

Heh, I think that was their impetus behind UMD's.  "Yeah, people want to watch 2 hour movies on their portable, so we'll make them pay $20 bucks for a tiny disc, which they can't watch on their TV!"

CericJuly 23, 2011

The Trailer was the best video except the Green Lantern one was technically better since it was 3D, fullscreen while taking the same time to download.

GaMMaJuly 23, 2011

I actually think Nintendo Video is a pretty awesome idea. I usually don't have WiFi access when I want to use Netflix so I can use this as a replacement. The first round of videos aren't bad either. A movie trailer for a movie that comes out this weekend and a few original videos. I really like the Dinosaur Office clip, too bad I can't save it forever. I'm sure Nintendo will release game trailers a few days before their 3DS games come out.
To the people out there who don't like this service, why?

TansunnJuly 24, 2011

It's free, it's a novelty, I'm not going to complain about it.

Do I think it could be better?  Yes.
Did I get my money's worth?  Yes.
