Ubisoft's Wii U shooter will be available for download online and they are aiming for launch.

Ghost Recon Online for Wii will not be a retail title, revealed a Ubisoft representative. The representative further explained that the final price point for the software is still being considered, but they are thinking about a price near $10. At the Ubisoft presentation tonight, they did not discuss or elaborate on these details at all.

Ghost Recon Online is also coming to the PC, where the title will be free. The PC version will have grenades and other items that can be purchased for your character, and its likely that so will the Wii U game.  The rep also said that there will not be cross-platform play with the PC version.

From FREE to pay.......okay.
:(

There goes the idea that the low amount of onboard storage would scare third parties away from releasing big download games.

Nintendo ALWAYS finds a way to screw up a console!

The fact that you have to pay for it means that you won't be nickled and dimed like the F2P PC version, right?  Right?

Ubisoft: *laughs*

I've seen many PC F2P games sold at retail, they include some bonus stuff for the purchase price.

I have too, but there are still free PC games have been sold with little to no changes at all.  I don't know if the controller alone is going to be worth paying anything more than F-R-E-E.  There has to be more to it than that.

PCs don't have licencing fees...

That answers all of the questions I had in the last related news post.
The game should take up at least one gigabyte of space. Other free-to-play shooters such as Quake Live, Battlefield Play4Free, and S4 League take up 700+ MB on the PC. Then again, it might be a leaner cut of the PC version. Battlefield 1943 (XBLA, PSN) clocked in at ~350 MB with 4-5 maps.

Man, I really really hope it's not a stripped-down port because of WiiU not having a decent-sized harddrive.

why release it for free ubisoft...do you not want to make money?

OblivionJune 09, 2011

Free to play, but priced at $10, right?

You could think of it as automatically buying a Premium add-on with All the second screen can do.

When I talked to them, they did not say it would definitely cost money for online play. They told me they were still in talks, and that it could be free too... In fact, he stated they would like it to be free like it will be for PC.
