The target sales for the first year are four to five million.

Nintendo of Europe are expected to ship 900,000 units for the first three weeks of the Nintendo 3DS launch.

For the first 12 months following the launch, four to five million consoles are expected to be sold across all European regions.

These sales numbers are greater than for the original Nintendo DS, which had one million units sold within the first four months, and reached 3.8 million after ten months.

These figures come from retail and publisher activities surrounding Nintendo's event in Amsterdam earlier this week. Stock volumes and ball-park figures for long term sales targets were compiled by MCV from their sources.

Seems low. I expected more.

Well this is for Europe. It's not including North American sales forecasts.

If nintendo can get the advertising right over here it could do even better but with the hefty price tag of £230 I guess they are playing it safe with their forecasts. A price drop to £200 would ensure they get that number and maybe even a few more besides.

Oh, is that why it says Europe in the title :twirls blonde hair with finger:

I was expecting them to have a much larger shipment to cover ALL of Europe. I was hoping to see "Nintendo 3DS sells 1 million units if first 2 weeks in the UK" alone, so ONLY 900k for the first 3 weeks for ALL of Europe seems kinda low especially since I thought they started manufacturing months ago since it was implied (somewhere) that the were "hoping" to originally make a 2010 launch at some point.

I guess the higher than expected price might balance out the supply issue though. I hope the US has a much higher allocation of units.

If they want me to be one of those 900k buyers they need to prove that their system does more than just display old games in 3D.
