Mario and the gang will be four-sport heroes in early February.

The Square Enix-developed Mario Sports Mix will be coming out in North America on February 7, according to Nintendo.

The Wii title features four sports (basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, and hockey) with single-player modes, unlockable characters, and local and online multiplayer. The online multiplayer will allow two players on a system to compete against two players on another. Friend Codes are still necessary, though you can also play against anonymous players.

Mario Sports Mix is already out in Japan, and is coming to Europe and the UK on January 28 and February 4 respectively.

February 7? That's odd, Nintendo doesn't usually release games on Mondays.

Actually, they only usually release the higher-profile games on Sundays; the less important games (of which Nintendo seems to think, and I'd agree, this is one) usually come out on Mondays.

so what's frustrating about this is... this game doesn't look interesting to me, since i already have wii sports and wii sports resort.  however, it has online play.  i mean, what i was most excited about with wii sports was the potential to play wii tennis with my brother across the country.  you can now do it with this game, but it will be the 3rd "sports mini-game collection" i'll have to buy.

i just wish they released this and resort as one game.  all the sports games, online play, motion plus, miis, and nintendo characters.  but whatever.

Humorously enough, their other confirmed Q1 release comes out on a Monday as well.

EDIT: Also, screw the naysayers. I'm mildly excited for this game. MotionPlus? Whatever. If this is a fun arcade sports game, I'll be thrilled.

Then again, I'm one of the three people who really enjoyed Sluggers Wii.

anyone know what the motion controls are like for the different sports?

Make that four people. I've played Mario Super Sluggers more than New Super Mario Brothers Wii and Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 combined. Unfortunately that's also one of the games that has spoiled me for a large roster, so I don't know if I can go back to the basic dozen.

From accounts I've heard, every action besides running is done by a flick of the Wiimote.
