Son Son, Exed Exes, and Commando look to be coming soon.

The Australian Clasification Board has listed Capcom's arcade titles Son Son and Exed Exes, making it all but certain that these two titles will see release in other regions on Virtual Console. The titles are already available in Japan and both have been rated PG for mild violence.

The Classification Board also lists Commando (also known as Wolf of the Battlefield), rated as "G".  This indicates its release in other regions is pending as well.

Great news! I'm not familiar with these arcade games but look forward to learning more about them. I wish Capcom would focus on their SNES catalogue.

Geez Capcom, you couldn't bring your GOOD games to the VC?  I have never met anyone who gives a shit about Son Son or Exed Eyes.  They get included in Capcom arcade compilations entirely because they're some of Capcom's first games.  Now Commando is actually a classic so that should be available.  But they should be focusing on titles like Final Fight and Strider.  Capcom has tons of classic arcade games to make available.

In general I'm quite unimpressed with the VC Arcade.  The selection is very small and most of the games are very questionable releases where the Publisher has numerous other arcade titles that are far more popular that are absent.

I like VC Arcade's focus on the more obscure stuff. You can already get the big stuff in lots of other places, and with features like online leaderboards that Nintendo doesn't support. Games like these aren't on the other download services.

Yeah but the Wii VC should function as its own entity.  It should be a quality service for people that ONLY have a Wii.  The focus on obscure titles is all fine and good as a compliment to PSN or XBLA but owning one of those systems should not be a requirement.  It's a lot like the third party situation where the short answer is "well just get another console as well".  That's cutting the Wii way too much slack.  Any console worth a shit should strive to succeed as its owner's sole console.  The VC Arcade should be for Wii owners, not PS3/X360 owners who have a Wii on the side.

I think we're beyond the point where any one console can be expected to satisfy a gamer. Every console this generation has a great lineup of exclusives, more so than any previous generation, and any gamer who can afford to should own all three. Also, how many people are there that care about VC Arcade who don't also own a 360 or PS3?

Is it too much to ask that the Wii not be the designated French mistress of the other less popular consoles?

TJ SpykeSeptember 22, 2010

Why does the thread title say Capcom announced these? When a game shows up on the ESRB site, we don't say the publisher announced it.

More titles is always a good thing, Son.Son is not that bad, at least from what I remember.

I think it's better for the Wii to offer something the other consoles don't than for it to do the same thing, but worse, which is what you'd get if they focused on the big name arcade titles that are already on XBLA and PSN. Like I said, I own all three consoles, because each of them does things that the others don't do, or at least don't do as well. Expanding the list of things you do better than everyone else is how you sell hardware.

No console can provide 100% satisfaction.  There will always be exclusives and even in situations where all available consoles offer the same features, there will always be one that does this or that a little bit better.  The nature of competition is such that they will always be slightly different.  However they should still strive to work well as someone's sole console.  And most of them are sufficient if you have reasonable expectations.

The Wii is the first console where there appears to be an assumption that it is a "second choice" console and that owning one of the other ones is more or less a requirement.  And also that having to buy two consoles and spending a shit load of money doing so is acceptable.  It has gotten to the point where it seems that only casuals and incredibly devoted Nintendo fans own only a Wii.  You go to any general gaming forum and the Wii is the universal "sidekick" console that you buy to get Nintendo first party games.  The PS3 and Xbox 360 however are seen as a standalone consoles.  You get one of those to be your main console and you don't need anything else but can buy another one to cover all your bases.

The casual attitude with that is what bothers me.  I bought a Wii to be my console for this generation.  I more or less HAD to buy a PS3 because it felt like I had bought a salad without the meal.  That sucks but almost everyone seems cool with that like the Wii can get away with being "half a console".  This isn't a Sega CD here.  It is supposed to stand as its own product.  The VC Arcade isn't an extra feature for PS360 owners.  It is supposed to be the way that Wii owners can buy classic arcade games and therefore it should provide a decent selection.

@TJ: I removed the connotation that these titles have been announced.  They have not.
