The $70 package includes the game, a figurine, a behind-the-scenes DVD, and more.

Disney Epic Mickey is getting the collector's edition treatment according to a recent listing by Toys R Us.

The package, retailing for $70, includes a copy of Disney Epic Mickey for Wii, a 5-inch Mickey figure, a DVD with behind-the-scenes footage and more, a stylized Wii Remote faceplate, and a pair of Wii console skins.

The listing also gives the game a November 15 release date, but it is unknown if that is just a placeholder date or the real deal. It is also unknown is this collector's edition is exclusive to Toys R Us or not.

Talkback

Damn, that one's going to take some mulling over because it is very tempting.  The thing is, while I want the behind-the-scenes DVD and the faceplate/console skins could be cool, even with the Mickey figure that's not all that much for $70.

I like the Mickey figure. The behind-the-scenes footage should be very interesting to see. However I can do without the faceplate and skins though. Rather have something else then others. An art book would be nice or maybe another figure. One of Oswald the Rabbit would be nice.

And wasn't there talk of gamer swag on one of the recent podcast episodes? Quite an interesting follow-up here.  ;D

I'm a sucker for Special Editions. Sold.

I think it's weird how this set includes a DVD when the Wii can't play DVD movies. It should come on a disc that the Wii can read.

Like most special editions, it sounds like the additional content is probably worth an extra $10, rather than $20. Epic Mickey is still on my list, but I'll pass on the Collector's Edition if it makes it to Europe. In fact, the video developer diaries on the DVD would probably find their way onto the internet before too long.

EDIT: I looked closely at the box art just now and to me, it's an indicator that the marketing team has a good grasp of who the audience is for this game, which is certainly not the Disney Channel demographic. Although it is quite bare and simple, the art is suitable within the context of the game, and thankfully not the usual twee Mickey Mouse junk.

Likely included in the unannounced $200 Extra Special Mickey Edition of the game. (I may be joking now but it would not surprise me).

Tempting but I don't think that extra stuff will be worth the 20 bucks.  "faceplate" is a strange term for the Wii remote skin, as I expect it to just be a sticker.... Think it could be something more durable?

It's odd that they didn't just include the behind the scenes bonus footage on the Wii disc.

They probably don't have the space.

Mostly like or they could have potentially put it on the disk but would need to compress the video quite a bit. Really though a lot of collector editions for games come with an alternate disk.

True.  Besides offering a visible representation of "value" in ads, it also makes it so they don't have to author 2 versions of the game: one with the bonus content, and one without.
