The popular tower defense title will get a DS port in 2011.

According to a Twitter post by PopCap's PR representative, Laurie Thorton, the company is working on a DS port of Plants vs. Zombies, a critically-acclaimed tower defense game in which players must strategically place several plants in order to fight off an army of zombies. The original title was released on the PC on May 5, 2009 via Steam and has since been brought to other platforms.

The DS version of the title will retail for $19.95 and features all of the standard modes, including mini-games, Adventure, Survival, and Puzzle modes, as well as "new and exclusive game content." Plants vs. Zombies has been given a January 2011 date.

Nice! I played it on a friend's iPhone and fell in love with it. I was hoping for a DSiWare version since it is perfect for that pick-up-and-play-anywhere gaming but I'll take a etail version over nothing. And it's not over priced compared to the regular version on PC.

It's not overpriced? I bought the same game last year on my PC for $5. It regularly goes for $10.

StratosAugust 23, 2010

Really? The PC demo advertises the full game for $20

Maybe it's just outdated?

The iPad version, which is, in my opinion, the definitive version of the game, is only $10.

Morari, you are thinking of the old and basic version of the game. Plus, this clearly says that the DS version will have exclusive content. The iPad may or may not be the definitive version of the current versions.

I would definitely agree that the iPad version plays the best, but it is lacking the extra modes of even the first release of the game.

On store shelves it still sells for $20, so retail $20 doesn't surprise me. Plus, why would one bother to ship a $10 retail game?

No, I'm talking about the Game of the Year Edition. As far as I know, it includes quite a bit over the original release. I'm not convinced that "exclusive DS content" will really be worth mentioning, let alone an extra $10.

If I remember correctly, it's actually the iPad version that's missing tons of content. A lot of the mini games and the Zen Garden were stripped out.

Maybe they'll hire Q Entertainment to do the bonus content like they did for Peggle Dual Shot?

And the price is certainly right in my wheelhouse.

You can find it cheaper elsewhere, but the game is certainly worth $20. I'd rather play it on the DS with a stylus than on an iPhone with my finger (that's what makes the iPad version great: the tactile nature of using a finger with the precision of a mouse or stylus because of the larger size).

Don't forget how much multitouch does for this title

It does a lot, but most of that would probably be made up for by the extra speed and precision of the stylus over using your fingers on the iPhone. Again, this is why the iPad version is so great: it includes the benefits of both styles. I'm interested to see how they do it on the 360, because I can't imagine it working well with a joystick. I have no intention of buying it, but I'll definitely download the demo to try out what they've done.

Only on Steam. It's 20 directly from PopCap.

I just played this for the first time this week and I love it. I'm looking forward to the DS port.
