"I'm really happy that the game was so well received in North America," Nomura told the magazine. "I definitely want to make a sequel. I'm very busy working on other titles right now, but when the time is right, I would love to make another installment of The World Ends with You."

The original game was released in North American on April 22, 2008, and received critical praise from various gaming outlets. The title sold 43,000 copies in its debut month in North America, and the game was sold out by May. The World Ends with You has sold a total of around 140,000 copies.
