Nintendo's plus-sized handheld puts up "solid" numbers.

Nintendo's latest handheld, the DSi XL, sold 141,000 units from its launch on March 28 to the end of the NPD reporting period on April 3, according to financial analyst Michael Pachter.

Those numbers made up about 20 percent of all DS sales, which also included the DS Lite and DSi, in March.

The DSi XL managed to outsell the PSP in its entirety, as Sony's portable only garnered 119,000 in sales for the entire month across different SKUs.

I am not really shocked, the DS is just a beast and every incarnation has been a huge seller. Nintendo is not slouching in the advertisement department for it, I have seen tons of commercials for it (usually featuring New Super Mario Bros. or some WarioWare game, although I don't know if it's WarioWare: Touched! or WarioWare: D.I.Y.).

I also wonder how many units were shipped. Given the size of the box, I wouldn't think most stores would want to stock too many of them due to the extra shelf space taken up.

DS is a mover. A store would be stupid to deny the biggest system mover ever shelf space.

The box is still smaller than a PSP 3000 box.

I am enjoying my XL, I actually find myself playing my DS more and I am sure that it is not simply my mind trying to validate the purchase.

We're never gonna live that down, are we?

I'm pretty sure we (or at least I) never said that the DSi XL was just for old people, I think we said that's the PR/marketing angle Nintendo was using for it.

TJ SpykeApril 18, 2010

Exactly, Nintendo's Japanese commercials for the system even feature elderly people playing it with their grandkids.

@ControlerFleX Oh, I know. :)

So, the question that everyone should be asking is: So, how many of these are Micros?
