The legendary players will make an appearance in the upcoming NBA Jam for Wii.

EA Sports Creative Director Trey Smith confirmed the return of Larry Bird and Magic Johnson as a special team in NBA Jam, according to MTV Multiplayer.

Bird played on the Boston Celtics in the 1980s, and Johnson, a star on the Los Angeles Lakers, played during the same era. The duo was well known during for their friendship and rivalry throughout their careers as they met in the NBA championship three times. In NBA Jam, players will get to face them at the end of the campaign-style mode.

"Whoever wins the [2010 NBA] championship, they'll be the second-to-last team, and then we'll have a legendary battle. Right now it's slated: Magic and Bird," Smith said.

Wonder what other Legendary players will be in the game?

BlackNMild2k1March 31, 2010

Still waiting for the Obama Biden team and the announcement of Michael Jordan.

I guarantee Jordan won't be in it.  They'd have to strike a deal with him personally since he wasn't in the player's association, remember?

They had a special version of the game made that featured him back in the day. So I see it as a possibility.
maybe not probable, but possible.

Unless the NBA Players Association works differently than those of the other sports, the fact that Bird and Magic are retired and no longer playing means they aren't considered part of the Players Association and EA already had to make deals with each of them personally.

EDIT: Obscure Reference Time: If Jordan's in the game, he needs a partner, and I'm proposing that that partner be Mike Ditka.

This is making me lean in the direction of buying this game.  Though I don't know if it's a full price kind of purchase for me.  Hell, I got NBA Hangtime used for the SNES for $2 so I don't really NEED this per say.

Being from the Pacific Northwest what I really want is to be able to play as the SONICS.

... and for shits and giggles the Vancouver Grizzlies would be kind of fun too.  Hell include the Minneapolis Lakers and then it looks like a fun vintage teams mode instead of something to please disgruntled Seattle fans.

Hangtime was for N64, I believe.

This game looks great on paper, but watching it... I don't know it seems like the same old game, and since I can't be bothered to play those, it takes something away from this for me. Still great, and for new gamers who missed the old Jam, I'd recommend this one all day.

Also hoping for Obama/Biden and maybe some red-state opponents for them.

Oh god a McCain/Palin team to go against them ...... that would be disappointing.
I really hope they don't make anything in the game too political (I could see Palin/Bristol/Levi team in the game though) as honoring the Pres/Vice is good, but immortalizing their failed competition(as a team).... no good.

Here's hoping to The Situation and Snookie ;D
or Flava Flav and New York lol

please don't follow any of those suggestions.
But I bet Mario/Luigi/Peach end up as a secret team in there somewhere.

Why not just use Bush/Cheney?

That would be much better.

Well obviously it was also on the SNES or I wouldn't, you know, own a copy.  ;)

For past presidents how about a Mt. Rushmore team with Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln?  I agree that secret characters should be presidents, not politicians.  There is no politics in including the president because he is the current president.  It's a factual thing and the idea isn't that they're putting Obama in, they're putting the current president in as a joke.  Years ago it would have been Bush and years from now it will be someone else.

Something else they used to do, at least in the arcade versions, was put in guys from other sports.  It would be cool to put like Derek Jeter, Sidney Crosby and Peyton Manning in as the "other sports" team and somehow those guys are good at basketball.

Huh. I didn't think that got released. It looks to be a rare game, I'd love to see a picture.

I just Google'd it myself. News to me, too.  :)

I remember Hangtime, my cousin had it.

I never ever got a sports game unless Mario was in the title. But I do remember wnjoying NBA Jam, if it's any good I just might buy it. Though I hate sports games!

It's rare?  The damn thing only cost be like $3!  :D

It's not hard to prove its existence.  http://www.mobygames.com/game/nba-hang-time

See that it has a SNES version listed.

BeautifulShyApril 06, 2010

I guess it got overshadowed by the hype of the N64. The game was released in 1996.
