Developed by Treasure, the sequel to the N64 classic will be released next month in Japan.

An updated listing on Nintendo's Japanese release calendar revealed that the sequel to Treasure's N64 shooter Sin and Punishment will see an October 29 release in the land of the rising sun. The game was playable at E3 and is slated as a first quarter 2010 release in America.

In addition, the calendar also displays a new Japanese title for Sin and Punishment 2. The game will now be called "Tsumi to Batsu: Sora no Koukeisha", which loosely translates to Sin & Punishment: Heirs from Space.

I think the 2010 date is still set for US and Europe. I will be surprised if it gets announced for this fall in the US and Europe.

I'm cool with a first quearter 2010 release. I've already got too many games this fall to budget for.

2009 will have the non-best holiday gaming season ever.

I really wish NOA would try to get this into 2009.  Nintendo has had such a barren first party release schedule for what has been well over a year by now.  At least we'll get NSMB Wii but aside from that it's slim pickings.

Though realistically right NOW is when we need something so maybe NOA might as well not bother.  If they pushed this forward it would probably just end up around the same time frame as NSMB, when it's not as necessary to have this available.

Sean Malstrom's theory about the drought is that Nintendo went full steam on the User Generated Content idea, Wii Music failed (and so did Little Big Planet) and showed them that UGC is a terrible idea so they had to freeze a lot of projects for retooling to outfit them with proper content instead of UGC and that's why they had nothing to release, they wanted to release something but messed up. That probably didn't delay S&P2 but I wouldn't be surprised if e.g. Minis March Again was originally intended to contain less premade content and instead rely on UGC.

Woah woah woah woah woah woah. Woah. I may just have to import this.
