However, it is still the top-selling system.

The DSi, while still remaining the top-selling system in Japan, has seen a decline in sales numbers. During the week of June 7, the Media Create numbers confirm the handheld dropped 40 percent to a total of 38,783 units sold.

The handheld has seen strong software releases, which include Square-Enix's Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days and Capcom's Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth. Both titles have been on the top of the best sellers list since their launch.

Both the DSi and PSP topped the overall hardware sales chart, with the Wii being the best-selling console.

The numbers from Media Crate are as follows:

  • DSi: 38,783
  • PSP: 29,070
  • Wii: 17,177
  • PS3: 10,173
  • Xbox 360: 6,625
  • DS Lite: 5,664
  • PS2: 4,096

Pap, you should be ashamed of yourself.  ;)

The past 4 weeks worth of DSi sales look like this:

5/17:  35,000
5/24:  31,000
5/31:  59,000
6/07:  38,783

Claiming sales saw a decline last week is highly misleading.  They didn't just suddenly drop last week--they returned to normal level after the release of Kingdom Hearts caused them to double the week ending 5/31.

So if you remove last week, sales of the DSi have actually increased by several thousand units.

Guess I can't blame a sales decline on poor DSiWare showings. They skipped like two weeks in a row.

I'd say Dragon Quest IX on July 11th oughta turn those sales up.  Then maybe the DS sales will continue in it's march to... uhh..  Well, it's kind of the #1 platform of all time there and is in somewhat uncharted territory as far as userbase is concerned.  I'm not sure why this was worthy of news.

DS came out in 2005? Is it time for a new one? I hear the DSi has more powerful hardware. Can it do better 3D?

The DS didn't come out in 2005, it came out in 2004. Very late in 2004, but 2004 nonetheless.

I read up, apparently the main ARM CPU went from 66mhz to 133 and the RAM went from 4mb to 16mb. Internal storage is 256mb. I think developers could do a lot more with that.

Is there anything to prevent Nintendo from releasing DSi only games on SD cards? I bet hardware hungry square enix games would love that.

What about Monster Hunter DSi? make a hardware bundle, it's a million+ seller.

~100 million regular DS owners.

There's no technical hurdle, and I believe they said they had plans to make DSi-only games at some undetermined point.
