How do you access the DS Shop? is it through WiFi on the DS or through a channel on the Wii?

BeautifulShyMarch 23, 2009

BNM when the DSi comes out.I think you can access it through the DSi.I believe the store is self contained on the DSi.

Text is tiny!

Great news, hopefully there are some decent DSi Ware games out on launch.

KDR_11kMarch 23, 2009

Anyone want to bet whether this will come to Europe too?

StogiMarch 23, 2009

Thank God for Flames.

Ever since you hired him, I feel like I get up to date information!

Well the other news staffers did a solid job but flames has really been extraordinary.

StogiMarch 23, 2009

Oh my bad. I didn't mean to crap on anyone with that comment.

BeautifulShyMarch 23, 2009

Yeah I'm glad Flames has been hired.Between me and him we will not miss any news.

I understood what you meant. I think Flames has been enough of a bump to help the staff, as a whole, to be more reliable because of less work load.

You guys are making me blush hahaha. I appreciate all the praise!

Which brings to mind. What does a blushing flame look like?

TJ SpykeMarch 23, 2009

Glad they will bring this offer here, makes the $170 price tag easier to swallow. Too bad I don't think I will have the money to get the DSi at launch, hopefully the offer continues for at least a couple of months.

BeautifulShyMarch 23, 2009

Well it seems that Target removed this bit of info from their site.So it can be guessed that this was true.

back to topic: this is pretty cool news but i still don't think i'll be getting one of these babies at launch. Are there any announced games made specifically for the DSi (ie. use its new features and probably not playable on the old DS?)

ShyGuyMarch 23, 2009

Why is Nintendo making DSi points separate from Wii shop points?

Why is Nintendo making DSi points separate from Wii shop points?

They are, but they aren't. They are the same thing (they are gonna be called "Nintendo Points", no more "Wii Points"). That means you buy a Nintendo Points card. You can then choose to use those in the Wii Shop Channel or DSiWare. Once you make your pick, those points are stuck there. So if you buy a 2000 Point card and decide to buy a Virtual Console game, all 2000 points have to be spend in the Wii Shop Channel and can't be used to buy DSiWare games.

Mop it upMarch 24, 2009

They keep them separate like that in an attempt to get you to buy more points. They don't want the points to be transferable so that if you have some leftover, you can't switch them to the other system to go towards those games. It's similar to the reason the point system exists in the first place rather than just letting you pay the exact amount whenever you purchase a game.

StratosMarch 24, 2009

I'm gonna disagree Mop it up, I think it is more because it is easier to handle since they didn't build the Wii Shop infrastructure with the DSi in mind. Imagine all of the potential hassle and confusion in creating a way to sync all of the accounts up. You could accidentally sync the wrong accounts and then people are spending other peoples points. If they had developed everything from the start with the intention of a seamless and integrated infrastructure akin to the XBLA setup then it wouldn't be as much of an issue. As has been pointed out, Nintendo programmers don't create systems with a lot of flexibility and adaptability in mind so it would be extremely difficult or impossible to feasibly reprogram all of this stuff to work together.

Nick DiMolaNick DiMola, Staff AlumnusMarch 24, 2009

But they already have a way to sync the accounts: your Club Nintendo account.

I'm guessing the same as mop_it_up, they would probably just rather you bind all of your points to one shop or the other that way if you want something in a spot other than where your points are you'll have to buy more.

My Amazon ship date for the DSi is April 10th... :( That makes me sad.  I ordered it quite a while ago....

Maybe I'll just pretend Nintendo never sent us a review system when it comes in and keep it. (assuming one comes in)

That's a joke Lindy and TYP. Don't fire me! =P
