Rygar Wii Delayed at the Last Minute

The Wii remake was scheduled for release this week, but was delayed until February despite the fact that review copies had already been sent out.

In the past it has been difficult to pin down Rygar: The Battle of Argus to a specific release date. The Tecmo Wii remake of the 2002 PlayStation 2 game was originally slated for a December 2007 release, but it's been slowly delayed over the past year. Tecmo has just announced that the game will now release on February 3, 2009, which will hopefully be the last delay for the title.

Even more curious is that review copies for the game already exist, and that it was apparently in a state ready to ship. 1UP writer Sam Kennedy, reporting on the news, lamented that he had spent the previous night playing it to ready a timely review. One possible reason for the delay of a finished or near-finished game could be to avoid the holiday season, a vital shopping season for videogames, but also one in which many games could be overshadowed by larger releases with bigger marketing budgets.

When Rygar: The Battle of Argus ships next February, it will carry an ESRB rating of T for Teen and a suggested retail price of $39.99.

What a shame. I kept myself from getting the PS2 version as soon as news broke out about a Wii release, and now they delayed it. It's not like they even needed to delay it other than for marketing purposes... I guess.

This game is six years old.
I don't care anymore. They should've just made a new game.

I'm still waiting for it. T_T

IGN was pretty harsh on it. I rather they delay it for a logical reason like fixing the game.

If Temco is smart they will release it with Budget price less than $30, ideally $20. That way it can be shovel-ware price and still be better than the garbage that is normally price that much.

I don't know if they can justify a price that low Adolph Vega when it seems they've completely remade the game for the Wii. RE4 at least had the GC build to start with, but what price did the PS2-only-to-Wii Okami come out at?

MUSCLE IMPAAACT! (The japanese title is "Warrior of Argos: Muscle Impact", seriously)

$40, but it was reduced to $30 within a month.

lol I didn't know this was coming out... So good that they delayed it. I don't think I'm alone.

Tecmo needs to realize that most of the last gen ports on the Wii are relatively recent games.  RE4, Okami, Bully, and The Godfather all came out for the Wii within about two years of the original release.  Over six?  Come on, that's way too long.  The game just doesn't feel current anymore.

Plus all the games you just listed were ports of popular games that were well received when they were first released aswell.  On the other hand, nobody cared about Rygar when it was released on the PS2 and the general impression from people that played it weren't too hot.

It's a nice game though the voice acting and story in general were atrocious.
