Collect evidence, defend your client, and battle in the courtroom in the puzzle-based crime drama.

Yesterday GAMEINVEST announced their newest title in development for both Wii and DS, Defenders of Law, Inc. The game is a puzzle-based crime drama in the vein of Capcom's Phoenix Wright series. Players will have to piece together clues and compile evidence in order to solve a murder mystery. GAMEINVEST claims the title is casually focused and highly accessible, but deep enough to be enjoyed by all.

Defenders of Law, Inc. allows players to choose one of five lawyers, Sophie, Margaret, Mark, Philips, and Jane, who are hired to defend the main suspect in the murder of a Ms. Rosevolt. Players must spend fifteen days collecting evidence such as fingerprints, footprints, and blood samples at the various involved crime scenes.

All of the gathered evidence is processed at the lab and returned to the player as a deck of cards which is used during the trial to face off with the District Attorney in a card game. The winning hand will reveal the final verdict and determine the fate of your defendant.

Each play-through can return a different outcome when the final card battle takes place. According to GAMEINVEST, Defenders of Law, Inc. can provide for up to 40 hours of gameplay through 25 scenarios.

Defenders of Law, Inc. currently does not have a release date, but will be available at sometime in the future for Wii and DS.

GAMEINVEST Announces Murder Mystery Game Defenders of Law, Inc. for Nintendo DS, Wii and PC

Join the Super Sleuths of Defenders of Law, Inc. as They Bring Intrigue and Conspiracy to Audiences This Summer

LISBON - July 22, 2008 Portugal’s leading video games investor and developer, GAMEINVEST, is unveiling the summer’s hottest legal team in its newest title, Defenders of Law, Inc.: Crime in Willburg. Currently in development for Nintendo DS™, Wii™ and PC, Defenders of Law, Inc. is a puzzle-based crime drama where players piece together clues and compile evidence in order to solve a murder mystery. GAMEINVEST is currently looking for qualified publishing partners for Defenders of Law, Inc. on the various platforms.

“We created complex criminal heroes in Defenders of Law, Inc. as a way to draw players into a story that feels like a really good crime novel,” said GAMEINVEST founder and CEO Paulo Gomes. “As an attorney in the game, players will uncover the mysteries behind each individual character while proving the innocence of their client. It creates a much deeper experience than the typical casual game yet it’s still accessible to everyone.”

In Defenders of Law, Inc., players choose to be one of five star litigators (Sophie, Margaret, Mark, Philips or Jane) within a criminal law firm hired to defend the main suspect in the murder of Miss Rosevolt. Each game begins in the courtroom as a judge awards the attorney 15 days to search for evidence to defend their client in the next courtroom session. Players must examine multiple witnesses and search for evidence such as fingerprints, footprints, and blood samples using the hidden object game mechanic, and then analyze their evidence in the lab. Evidence gathered in the lab is then presented on a deck of playing cards, which players use to face off in an intense card game against the district attorney. The winning hand reveals the final verdict and the ultimate fate of the defendant: is he guilty or innocent? Play the game again and again to reveal a different outcome of the story each time.

Using a Wii remote, DS stylus, or mouse, players navigate their way through 25 detail-rich scenarios, guaranteeing a different experience each time the game is played. With five characters to choose from and 40 hours of ingenious gameplay, players of all ages will be drawn to the mystery of Defenders of Law, Inc.

well maybe this competition will force a shake up of Phoenix Wright games that have been fairly stagnant as of late.

Phoenix Wright clones are on INSTABUY status from me.

On the one hand, it's supposedly sort of like Phoenix Wright.  On the other hand, it has card battles.  I don't know what to think!
