Another arcade-style light gun game for your Wii Zapper (or not) is on the way.

KONAMI BRINGS OLD-SCHOOL ARCADE ACTION TO THE NINTENDO WII™ WITH TARGET: TERROR™

First Konami Title Compatible with Wii Zapper™ Peripheral, Features Fast-Paced Run ‘N’ Gun Action, Dual Wielding and Fun Mini-Games

El Segundo, CA – January 3, 2007 – Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. announced that Target: Terror™ is currently in development for the Nintendo Wii™. The game is based on Target: Terror Gold, the top-grossing arcade game of 2006 and designed by arcade pioneer Eugene Jarvis, founder of Raw Thrills, Inc., the developer of Big Buck Hunter PRO.

Target: Terror is the first game from Konami that will be compatible with Nintendo’s new Wii Zapper™; players will be able to capture the old-school flavor of fast-paced light gun shooters from gaming’s glory days of the arcades. Target: Terror puts players in the role of an elite counter-terrorist agent charged with protecting the U.S. from an ever-increasing wave of terrorist threats.

With a full-scale assault spanning the entire nation, players can show these terrorist thugs who’s boss, using an assortment of lethal weapons including machine guns,

grenade launchers, freeze guns, flamethrowers and even an orbital laser beam from space. Target: Terror also features a unique “Justice Mode," allowing players to dual-wield weapons for twice the mayhem.

Target: Terror also features an unlockable offering of fun and humorous mini-games inspired by a variety of arcade classics.

Developed by Leviathan Games, Target: Terror is expected to explode onto the Wii in Q1 of 2008. For more information, visit the website at www.konami.com.

What in the world?

That looks...

I mean...

eesh.

vuduJanuary 03, 2008

Oh wow. And people said Ghost Squad looked bad. Konami isn't even trying.

Flames_of_chaosLukasz Balicki, Staff AlumnusJanuary 03, 2008

Dear Konami,

DO NOT WANT. Bring back Lethal Enforcers and/or Silent Scope or bust. I want to see Kairon's reaction more than anything.

Konami has crossed the line between not supporting the Wii and actively trying to destroy the Wii. Considering the low sales of the PS3 and the huge losses Sony take on the rare occasion they actually sell one you'd think their moneyhat budget would be running out by now.

This looks so terrible.

I can't wait.

This is so true. Why does Konami hate Nintendo so much? I thought that things were improving... I didn't know that they would become the new Squaresoft!

No one tell me anything ;-;

GoldenPhoenixJanuary 03, 2008

ROFL it looks like those super OLD low budget "shooters" that put real people into crappy backgrounds, then brag about how real the characters look. Konami should be flat out ASHAMED.

I am reminded of Sylvester Stallone's glorious addition to gaming: Judge Dread for the arcades.

NeoThunderJanuary 03, 2008

couldn't they have just made this a WiiWare game?

Athrun ZalaJanuary 03, 2008

wow

and I thought that Cruis'n was the shittiest looking Wii game of the forever...

ShyGuyJanuary 03, 2008

Konami is bitter. BITTER. Nintendo must have killed their dog and slapped their momma.

Ahahah I think this looks fantastic.

AdrockJanuary 03, 2008

This would be instant win if the game ended up being fun to play. I don't like playing bad games, but I'll play a good game that looks bad if only to laugh at how crappy it looks.

vuduJanuary 03, 2008

I can't even tell which is the Wii game and which is the DS game!

targetterror.png

Apparently, gamestop has this listed at $39.99. I'm sorry, but I'm expecting to pay Ninjabread Man prices for this, or even Ghost Squad prices, but there's no way I'm going to pay Zack & Wiki prices for this!!!

darknight06January 03, 2008

Once again, one company sees another doing something and the rest start following suit. In this case it seems to be for the worse.
What makes this so bad is that Target Terror wasn't even a good arcade game. The crap sits in the corner of our arcade doing absolutely NOTHING but show its attract mode all day.
What also kills me is that the graphics haven't been touched in the slightest. The Wii could run circles around this crap, it's that old.

Edit: Apparently I haven't been paying attention to that section of the arcade too much, I was only aware of the original, not Gold. According to my brother who works there, that machine does make a killing in revenue on average. The original Target Terror didn't do all that much here, but Target Terror Gold is a big moneymaker. Maybe we might have something here, if the game is liked as much in the arcades as it seems to be around here it may not do all that bad when it gets home. I can still picture Konami ROFL about doing this knowing it's going to fund their next hi-def project.

I hope this game sells 10,000,000 copies.

God I'd KILL for Area 51 on the Wii.

I love how this is a sign of Konami's impending bankruptcy.

CalibanJanuary 03, 2008

That's MGS4 graphics for the Wii.

Ian SaneJanuary 03, 2008

I won't deny that this games looks like crap. Hell porting the arcade version of the Lethal Enforcers games would look better and probably be more appreciated. But this is an arcade port and though I had search around a bit for screens of the arcade version that graphics look equally crappy. This version looks arcade perfect. I don't expect them to make the graphics better for the home version.

I am irritated that Konami's support of the Wii continues to be lame sauce. We just aren't getting the big titles from Konami (or pretty much anyone else. STILL. After no one could even find a Wii this Christmas a WHOLE YEAR after launch) and until we do any game they announce isn't going to impress me. This isn't even an original game. It's an arcade port probably handled by the most junior team at the company or off sourced to someone else. Considering that non-music based arcade games aren't really that popular anymore it feels like a cheap cash-in.

Though since Eugene Jarvis designed it it might be pretty good. I don't know because I don't go to arcades anymore because they're too expensive and they suck.

If you guys read a single post in this thread, read this one.

Just FYI to those not in the know, Target: Terror came out in arcades a few years ago and is from the same place (starring Eugene Jarvis lol) responsible for putting out The Fast and the Furious arcade game, which, hilariously, was just a knock off of Cruis'n. And then was later ported to the Wii as the new Cruis'n. Oh god, the lols.

And, yeah, Target: Terror features the nicest digitized characters ever, but by jove everybody sensible quit using digitized sprites in the 90s. It's an okay arcade game as it's a gun game you can play for a long time on one quarter, but being a bargain light gun game won't port well to the home version, I'm sure.

In motion, it looks way better than any digitized game ever, especially Lethal Enforcers. But jesus who cares

NO
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

Jarvis is the biggest has-been since Romero, the difference is he doesn't have the name recognition. Unless you really, really like Robotron, Cruis'n, and Target Terror I guess. There's also been a funhouse banner about this game for like two years

Found it!

Smash_BrotherJanuary 03, 2008

Konami sprung their April Fools joke early this year to make sure we were caught off guard.

NinGurl69 *hugglesJanuary 03, 2008

Yeah but Nintendo announced the console's name as "Wii" and it turned out to be the real thing.

ShyGuyJanuary 03, 2008

You know, I kinda liked Jonny linking this on a NeoGaf topic, makes our little community feel less insular.

Infernal MonkeyJanuary 03, 2008

Hahahaha oh my God I love you again Konami! DAY ONE!

darknight06January 03, 2008

Now that I think about it, I'm actually kinda surprised Midway didn't bring this one over, considering that Cruis'n was made by the same group. Midway must think they can't strike lightning twice on the Wii or something.

BlackNMild2k1January 03, 2008

This is obviously a DAY ONE PURCHASE .... W/ STRATEGY GUIDE!!!! ::rolleyes::

Midway probably lost the bidding war to Konami. They just don't have $70 lying around.

oohhboyHong Hang Ho, Staff AlumnusJanuary 03, 2008

What the holy hell is that?!? I mean there is a killing to be made in light gun games like Virtual Cop and the Time Crisis series, but what in all that is holy is that? I mean I played Lethal Enforcers back on the SNES in the early 90's and we collectively moved away from bloody digitized crap pretty soon after.

Konami, I know it is the New Years and you are still drunk, but please stop exposing yourself in public until your sober.

Or Phoenix Games! sorry infernal

PaleMike Gamin, Contributing EditorJanuary 04, 2008

Why are you sorry to Infernal?

Those youtube vids he has up (I assume it's the same Infernal) made my day yesterday when I found that gaf thread.

PlugabugzJanuary 04, 2008

I'm saying sorry because i beat him to it. And i dont want to tarnish their name face-icon-small-wink.gif

Ian SaneJanuary 04, 2008

"Jarvis is the biggest has-been since Romero, the difference is he doesn't have the name recognition."

To be fair I haven't had the chance to notice since the last Jarvis game I played came out in like 1990. face-icon-small-wink.gif

I think we're going to need to add an award to our yearly segment: Biggest slacker (Wii)

Adrock hit it right on the head. Seriously, you all whine about how the graphics are so bad....it's a rail shooter! And for the ones that said Konami is trying to drag the Wii under...how exactly is Konami doing that by porting one of the most popular arcade games of 2006? Granted, you are absolutely right, the graphics look cheesy, but go play the arcade game. It's exactly the same (as it is meant to be). The fun of target terror is not the FMV actors. It's the exploding turkeys, the hot chicks in leather, the terrorists trying to dump toxic waste on innocents, and the shocker zapping the crap out of a terrorist until he/she explodes. This game came from Raw Thrills and Eugene Jarvis. If you don't know who he is, look him up in a search engine and it won't take you long to understand exactly what this game is all about.

They have already made drinking games based on this game, or at least I found 2 on kotaku.com (comment 171 or so). I really think this game is gonna have a huge impact on US and overseas sales and for those of you that just cant buy it because the graphics are below your standards, well you will miss out. Your friends will play it and they will love it but you stick to your guns because I am sure that high def Wii game that is up to your graphical standards is just right around the corner.

It's not so much the lack of graphics that concerns me... it's that the price for a game like this should be $30 and nothing higher... if it's higher it's just ridiculous...

S-U-P-E-RTy Shughart, Staff AlumnusJanuary 16, 2008

40 dollars for a 3-year-old arcade game

lol

LuigiHannJanuary 16, 2008

I do hope Wii Ware gets games like this. It looks like mindless fun, which I could get into, but I agree it's not worth full price.

MarioJanuary 16, 2008

This is why game prices should be lower
