Create & Share Smash Bros. Levels

Brawl will feature a level editor, SD storage, sharing with friends, and submission for "stage of the day."

Major online features of Super Smash Bros. Brawl continue to be revealed at the game's official blog. Today's update details the level editor, a first for the series. You can choose from various music, backgrounds, and level sizes, then place all kinds of platforms and objects on a grid to create your level. The number of pieces you may use is limited, so that the stage won't become overly crowded. This mode is compatible with the SD card slot, so you can create lots of levels without having to worry much about storage.

But that's not all! Brawl also allows you to send created levels to friends, with the odd stipulation that you must have shared both Friend Codes from the game and Wii system numbers. There is also a Submit feature, much like the one in the Everybody Votes Channel, with which you may send a created level to Nintendo. Every day, one user-created level will be chosen by Nintendo and sent out to Brawl owners via WiiConnect24. These levels will only be available for one day at a time, but you can always look forward to a new level the next day. The blog update also mentions very briefly that Snapshots, a feature previously profiled on the website, can also be submitted to Nintendo. It is not yet known how these might be used or delivered to Brawl players.

I just have one question, who will face me on my Single Block of Doom Stage?

NinGurl69 *hugglesOctober 28, 2007

Gigantic rotating PENIS STAGE a la Brinstar Depths with Kraid or Mastur Hand spanking it to make it rotate.

Make it two blocks, with a huge space between them, and I'm so there.

I hope the vanishing means vanishing off the internet, not vanishing off your local storage, too.

I have two comments on this.

Firstly, will this be the first Wii game to access the SD card in game? It's a pretty cool trend to start.

Secondly, will the stage of the day just show up automatically on the stage select screen (assuming your Wii is connected to the internet)? I mean, it's still cool even if you have to go to a special mode to see it, but it would be even cooler if it just showed up so if you played random stages every time occasionally you'd get a never before seen one.

No, Excitetruck accessed your SD card in order to play custom soundtracks.

But this update is probably my favorite so far. They've put everything in that I originally thought about wanting very badly. Replay saves, custom levels, online...

I truly will play this game forever.

Wow I didn't even think of this update working that seamlessly. I really hope it works as you have said Pale, it's just available right on the Stage Select screen without any effort from the player to go to a special mode.

LADDERS ONLY!

I hope there will be destructible walls of some sort. Those ladders in the pics make me want to make a Wrecking Crew level SOOOO badly.

The way it looks to me is that custom maps will appear on a separate menu/window from the standard maps...

If I'm not mistaken, ExciteTruck allows you to access your SD card for music...although I haven't tried it yet. Wait a minute...someone already answered that question.

As an aside, I can also understand why Sakurai would apologize for not being able to use music outside of what's available in the game...too much complexity there.

That would be really cool, I hope you can have hazards too in the level like the lava rising or some other level changing hazard.
