Japanese Virtual Console Games Rated for Australia

Friday had significant Virtual Console news, but the best is yet to come.

The OFLC, Australia and New Zealand's version of the ESRB, has rated numerous Virtual Console games that have not yet been released. Added to that list on Thursday were two extremely interesting titles, particularly in light of Sin & Punishment coming soon to the Japanese Virtual Console. Though that title has not yet shown up on the list, two others have: Mario's Super Picross and Super Mario Bros. 2 (JPN).

The former is a Super Famicom sequel to Mario's Picross for the original Game Boy, while the latter is better known here as "The Lost Levels," as it was called in Super Mario All-Stars. Both games have been released on the Japanese Virtual Console but have not seen a release outside of that country in their original forms.

Additionally, one non-Virtual Console game, Harvest Moon: Magical Melody, is also slated for a Wii release. This particular game was released for GameCube in the rest of the world.

The full list of rated, but unannounced and currently unreleased Virtual Console games can be found below.

Would have been nice to see Sin and Punishment on there because that would almost prove it is coming out here!

Very cool news. I'm not personally interested in SMB2 (Lost Levels) because it's too hard to be fun for me, but this trend is great to see, especially with first-party games.

I really wonder how they'll handle Sonic 3 & Knuckles. In compilations they've had S3&K as a separate ROM, but it would be cruel and unusual to sell S3&K separately from the individual titles. I figured they'd just release S3&K as a premium-priced game, but this suggests otherwise. Maybe if you buy Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles, you'll be able to download S3&K for no extra charge? (Same goes for the Sonic 1 + Sonic & Knuckles "NO WAY" bonus stage thingie and Knuckles in Sonic 2)

Are you serious? I beat that when I was like 10 years old.

I can beat SMB1 playing every level in less than a half hour. I haven't played Lost Levels in years, so I'd love to see how long it'll take me now.

I really hope it comes to the VC. I haven't bought a game since Super Castlevania came out.
