Nielsen finds Wii Households are more “Upscale"

So does this mean I should be a lot richer than I am? Perhaps not, but the rich seem to like the Wii.

Although the Wii is the least expensive console of this generation, it seems more likely to show up in expensive homes. Nielsen’s GamePlay Metrics has found that households that are home to Wiis are more “upscale" and even boasting an annual income of more than $100,000.

Based on the infrastructure of Nielsen’s well-established TV-monitoring service, GamePlay Metrics is a data-tracking service of the gaming industry that gathers information from 12,000 households, that means a rough estimate of 33,000 people.

GamePlay Metrics can show “who is playing games, on which systems, at what times, and, when integrated with other Nielsen data, illustrates which other media platforms are also engaging gamers and which consumer goods they’re likely to buy."

It could be the industry I work, but all the Wii owners people I know are on good salaries and are professional people. It makes sense really. Without trying to generalise myself out of existence, the younger, and hence poorer, but more willing to part with cash crowd are more often than not drawn to technology and so the 360 or PS3 is their choice. The richer, folks are more interested in other experiences and the graphical prowess doesn't play so much of a part in their choices. It's more about variety and experience, socialising andmaking sure it fits in with their furniture, is easy to use and unobtrusive, which the Wii is.

Yeah, I totally agree with you huh.
The Wii is something quite interesting, it really does seem to be attracting a new market.. not that rich people perhaps didn't buy Nintendo before but... yes. Haha.

It's good news, but nothing unexpected in my eyes.

When you buy a PS3, you actually get knocked a few rungs down the economic ladder.

I'm confused. What does this mean for people who own both a Wii and another current console?

Lies, Damn Lies... and statistics?

Wii-owners are the people that pay the homeless people to wait in line for ten+ hours. FACT

This sentence makes no sense.

They were trying to quantify "upscale". You knew what they meant.

Welcome back; now update the damn Brawl Mega Thread.

I'm not really back. My current residence doesn't have internet access.
