Smash Bros. Dojo Updates

So that's how you play as Zero Suit Samus.

It was an interesting week over at the Dojo. The highlight of the week was probably the official unveiling of Zero Suit Samus. We''ll get to that in a bit.

New Song: Star Fox: Space Armada
This is a slightly different arrangement to a song that came right out of Melee. The composition supervisor is Hajime Hirasawa, who wrote the music for the original SNES Star Fox title in 1993. The arrangement supervisor is Kenji Ito, who wrote the music on several Square games, like Children of Mana and Romancing SaGa. To hear the song, check out this post over at the Dojo.

Dancing DeoxysNew Pokemon: Deoxys
A new Pokemon was revealed on Tuesday. Deoxys could pop out of some of those randomly thrown pokeballs. It appears to be another uber one, in the vein Lugia and Ho-oh from Melee. After leaving the ball, it will float up to the top of the screen and unleash a Hyper Beam attack that will send everyone flying, leaving smoke trails in their wakes.

Shoom!New Final Smash: Samus's Zero Laser
Samus's final smash was officially unveiled. It proved to be identical to what was shown in the original E3 '06 trailer, all the way down to the origin of the Zero Suit model. If Samus grabs a Smash Ball, she will be able to unleash the Zero Laser, which is a massive beam that is around twice the height of Samus herself. Afterwards however, her suit is overloaded and falls off. Presumably, the player will remain Zero Suit Samus for the rest of the match. To add some humor to the whole situation, the pieces of the suit can then be picked up and used as projectiles.

Whippy!New (sub)Character: Zero Suit Samus
To follow up the announcement of how Zero Suit Samus will be playable comes the 'official' announcement of Zero Suit Samus as a character. As was already evident from all of the trailers and screenshots that have been released, Zero Suit Samus will be significantly faster than regular Samus and use a weapon that is sometimes a gun and sometimes a whip.

What th-Story Details
Friday's announcement was one of the strangest and most vague posts to come out of the blog to date. It shed some light on the story behind the game, showing that it will be basically similar to the (minimal) story of the past Smash Bros. games. Characters will originate as trophies. In fact, the screenshots of Mario as a trophy are virtually identical to the intro of Melee. The entire post is ended with an ominous message about something that breaks the rules and a screenshot is shown of Metaknights aircraft coming into view, followed by another shot of a strange shadowy looking character. Who knows what all this means? Is there going to be a more in depth single player experience in this game?

Now that the rush of E3 is over with, maybe we'll get some more interesting announcements next week. The blog still hasn't unveiled a previously unknown character (who isn't a returning character) and I think it's about time.

Talkback

Bill AurionJuly 22, 2007

Probably my favorite week of updates so far...Prediction time!

Music: Animal Crossing or Fire Emblem
Character: Peach or Ness (More realistically, Metaknight needs his profile revealed...)
Item: Poo or Marin Assist Trophy, Homerun Bat
Stage: Anything Earthbound-related or Wario Ware (More realistically, Palutena or the Fire Emblem castle stage we've seen...)
Game Mode: Trophy Collection

CericJuly 22, 2007

I'm going to predict something pertaining to Mario. Is TGS next week? If so a trailer. I think we be getting another music sample. Maybe little bit about Sandbag Jr. A move set of some sort. Another Assist Trophy and Something that is none of those.

MashiroJuly 22, 2007

TGS is in september Ceric =)

I wish it was next week though.

I'm just waiting on something Square-Enix related to be announced for Brawl. Sora or Crono has just GOT to be in this game. I will cry for a few days if Crono doesn't make it in. >_<

MashiroJuly 22, 2007

I'm actually playing Chrono Trigger at this very moment (had a weird craving to play it) and . . . I want Crono in SSBB as well. Luminaire final smash would be so epic.

Bill AurionJuly 22, 2007

Now that I think about it, Crono would be the perfect (and probably only good) addition if Ninty were to pull an Squenix character...But alas, I don't see it happening...

StogiJuly 22, 2007

I want to play as his frog-knight friend!

MashiroJuly 22, 2007

Oh man if they ever included Frog aka Glenn and Crono. . . forget it. Game over. SSBB would be the best game of all time. Period.

lol.

You'd see Mario all beat up on the ground, about to be consumed by that evil energy stuff that was in the last update, then out of no where Frog would come down from the sky as if sent by the heavens themselves and strike the energy with Masamune. The evil energy would disipate and then . . .

and then I would wake up ::tears::

:P

CericJuly 22, 2007

Its so confusing with all of them so close.

BlackNMild2k1July 22, 2007

Leipzig in Germany is coming up soon though. Sometime in Aug.

PlugabugzJuly 23, 2007

Is there ever any real meaty story to a nintendo-developed (metroid excluded) title? contracted and purchased parties dont count.

Peach should really get herself a bodyguard.

Bill AurionJuly 23, 2007

All of Intelligent Systems' games...Unless you aren't counting them either... =)

Ocarina of Time? Twilight Princess?

I'd add the Mario and Luigi games to that list as well, but those were contracted out to AlphaDream...

CRAP.... how could I forget Fire Emblem?

PlugabugzJuly 23, 2007

Point taken, Bill and Arbok wins.

NinGurl69 *hugglesJuly 23, 2007

AHAHAHAHHA metroid has a story?

"ROBO-LADY. GOTO ____ PLANET. KILL.... EVERYTHING.

THE END."

What an exhilirating ride full of emotional ups and downs and action.

MashiroJuly 23, 2007

Make fun of Metroid all you want but I dare anyone here to tell me they felt nothing when the, now enormous, baby metroid in Super Metroid sacrificed itself to save Samus in the battle against mother brain.

AManatee2July 23, 2007

i'm currently playing through prime 2 again to prep for corruption.

someone hasn't played this game if they're arguing against a story for metroid. i don't know how many lore there is to download in this game, but if you were to read all of the (beautifully written, i might add) text in this game, you could possibly write of few side stories of your own.

oh yeah, this is a brawl topic. i think i disagree about this being an "interesting" update week. i hated most of it. since i go tourney's and we take the game way too seriously, i'm really just hoping for some confirmations like new characters (not items) and play mechanics. and where the f is the freaking shield? and what the f is this about zero-suit? i swear, if you can't have her as a pick able character, it will just be completely terrible for someone who wants to use zero-suit in a tourney. i really hope there is another way that doesn't hinge on the chance of grabbing a smash ball, which... i might at would be a little hard to do in a tournament that doesn't allow for items.

the positive side in me tells me there will be an easier way to use z-suit then blowing your suit off. maybe the hold 'a' trick at the start of the match? i really hope so. i'm really only hoping that turning to z-suit is more of a side-effect of using the final smash, and z-suit truly is a 'newcomer'.

NinGurl69 *hugglesJuly 23, 2007

It's easy to argue against the story since people easily get defensive about it.

If you've played the game then you'd know the story isn't significant compared to the gameplay and atmosphere provided. The morph ball situations beat any challenge offered in Toilet Princess any day.

Wherever evil is spoken of innocent games, I, Kairon, shall ride out in their defence.

lolz, you could say that about almost any game.

also about transformers the movie. the argument was about a story being there.

MashiroJuly 24, 2007

Aside from RPGs how many games really have incredibly deep and complex story plots anyway?

=P

Bill AurionJuly 24, 2007

Adventure Point-'N-Clicks... =3

MashiroJuly 24, 2007

and that . . . lol.
