Miyamoto: good excuse.

10:13: Miyamoto vs Reggie soccer heading. Getting smacked with cleats negates score... Miyamoto doesn't do so well.

10:14: Reggie is happy but not satisfied. This is Nintendo's time to lead... they intend to steal leisure time to video games... people want interaction in entertainment. They will be satisfied when video games become the preeminent form of entertainment.

10:16: It's over; enjoy E3!

Nintendo's E3 Press Conference Summary For Wii

With the press conference over, Nintendo releases a summary of what was discussed at their conference this year. Release dates for titles coming this year have also been included.

NINTENDO REVEALS INCOMPARABLE BREADTH OF UPCOMING GAMES FOR WII

Classic Franchises, Amazing Games and Cool Accessories Keep Wii on Top

SANTA MONICA, Calif., July 11, 2007 – Consumers take note: Cancel your vacations, postpone your weddings and skip your class reunions. New games for the record-selling Wii video game system continue to set new industry standards for fun and adventure, even as they draw new players into the ever-expanding world of Wii. Nintendo announced these new offerings for Wii today during its media briefing at the E3 Media & Business Summit in Santa Monica, Calif.

"In less than eight months Wii has proved itself the video game system for everyone, and we're not letting up," says Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "We're producing hit after hit after hit, supported by a long line of third-party publishers who have shifted their resources to help make Wii the most distinctive video game system in history."

Counting downloadable Virtual Console titles, Wii already boasts more than 150 games. By the end of the year, that number will climb to about 350 in the United States alone. Just check out what Wii has to offer:

Wii Fit: The active-play phenomenon started by Wii Sports now spreads to your whole body thanks to the pressure-sensitive Wii Balance Board (name not final), which comes packed with Wii Fit. The board is used for an extensive array of fun and dynamic activities, including aerobics, yoga, muscle stretches and games. Many of these activities provide a "core" workout, a popular exercise method that emphasizes slower, controlled motions. Family members will have fun staying active and talking about and comparing their results and progress on a new channel on the Wii Menu.

Mario Kart Wii (name not final): The new version of Mario Kart, due in early 2008, features new vehicles and lets players near and far compete using Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection, Nintendo's wireless gaming service. Mario Kart launches with the Wii Wheel (name not final), a steering wheel housing for the Wii Remote that brings new controls and challenges for veteran gamers, while making getting into a race easy and intuitive for newcomers.

Super Mario Galaxy: The latest masterpiece by legendary video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto puts a smile on the face of everyone who plays it. Until now, no game has matched the sheer fun and sense of delightful awe produced by the groundbreaking Super Mario 64. Using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, players navigate iconic hero Mario through a series of planets, each with its own gravity, chaotic challenges and power-ups. The game bursts through the screen in vivid artistic detail, and a second player can even provide some assistance along the way. It blasts off Nov. 12.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Nintendo's all-out smash-or-be-smashed franchise remains one of the most highly anticipated games of the year. Its predecessor became the No. 1 selling game of all time on Nintendo's previous console. Super Smash Bros. Brawl ups the ante with new characters, new moves and new arenas. The game smashes into North American stores Dec. 3.

Wii Zapper (name not final): This new accessory combines the accuracy of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk in a single housing for a new experience for first-person shooters and targeting games. Players can hear the sounds of battle through the Wii Remote speaker when it is incorporated into the Wii Zapper. It arrives on store shelves later this year, packaged with Nintendo-developed software that shows off its versatility. The Wii Zapper also will be used with a host of third-party games, including Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles from Capcom, Ghost Squad from Sega and Medal of Honor from Electronic Arts.

Check Mii Out Channel (name not final): Launching in 2007, this free new channel builds on the huge phenomenon of Wii owners creating fun caricatures of themselves, their friends and celebrities. The two main components of the free channel include an area where users can post Miis they have created to let others vote on their artistic abilities, and a competition element that lets users test their skills to create the most accurate likeness of individuals or other themes suggested by Nintendo. The Check Mii Out Channel joins the lineup of cool channels on the Wii Menu, which includes the Internet Channel, the Everybody Votes Channel and the Forecast Channel, among others.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption: This final chapter of the Metroid Prime trilogy introduces unmatched first-person controls by letting players use the Wii Remote as an arm cannon for a feeling of complete immersion. Heroine Samus travels between planets to stop her nemesis, Dark Samus, from corrupting them. All the while Samus fights the spreading Phazon that is taking over her body while giving her incredible powers. It launches Aug. 27.

More to Come: Other Nintendo titles launching this year for Wii include Mario Strikers Charged (July 30), Donkey Kong Barrel Blast (Oct. 8), Battalion Wars 2 (Oct. 29), Endless Ocean (Oct. 29) and Fire Emblem (Nov. 5).

Third-Party Support: Third-party publishers are racing to see who can put the most resources behind Wii. By the end of the year, about 100 new Wii games will hit stores. EA brings Boogie and EA Playground, as well as online action for its Madden NFL and FIFA Soccer franchises; Mario and Sonic team up for the first time ever in Sega's Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games; Sega shows off dreamy aerial acrobatics with NiGHTS Journey of Dreams; Activision jams with Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock; Namco Bandai puts the battle blade into players' hands with SoulCalibur Legends; Disney Interactive belts out High School Musical: Sing It!; Square Enix brings Dragon Quest Swords in early 2008 – and that's just a taste of what's to come.

Nintendo's E3 2007 Lineup

Nintendo has revealed what games it will be showing at this year's E3 Business and Media Summit.

NINTENDO CONTINUES TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN CORE AND CASUAL PLAYERS

From Wii Fit to Flash Focus to Mario Kart, Nintendo Shows Everyone is a Gamer

SANTA MONICA, Calif., July 11, 2007 – The world used to be divided into two camps: gamers and non-gamers. In the first group: young men. In the second: everyone else.

Then came Wii and Nintendo DS.

The remarkable Wii Remote and touch screen and voice recognition of Nintendo DS removed the barriers to entry and put video games into the hands of young women, moms, dads and grandparents. Gamers now find they have a whole new population of people willing to join them in their gaming passion. At its media briefing today at the E3 Media & Business Summit in Santa Monica, Calif., Nintendo announced multiple new games and accessories designed to reinforce that bridge and further demonstrate everyone is a gamer.

"Games like Wii Sports and the original Brain Age proved anyone can pick up a video game system and immediately have fun," says Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "We're building on that foundation with games and accessories appealing to our current fan base and drawing in even more new players."

New games and accessories not only demonstrate that Nintendo is not going to coast on its momentum, but they also show how the power and versatility of Nintendo's systems have only just begun to be explored. What might the future bring? These are the kinds of "what-if" questions firing the imaginations of consumers when Nintendo dares to explore them. For now, the following is a roundup of Nintendo's major announcements.

Wii

• Wii Fit: This experience builds on the active-play phenomenon started by Wii Sports. It comes packed with the pressure-sensitive Wii Balance Board (name not final) that measures users' actions in fun aerobic, toning and balance activities. Talkback

Is it me or they pretty much ignored the hardcore crowd? Sure, release dates is awesome and confirmation of Mario Kart, but it seems that Nintendo is really focusing on just the consumers who aren't hardcore video gamers. Oh well, at least I have some hope about their Wi-Fi service. May not be 'Live, but it is something. Overall, enjoyable conference!

ShyGuyJuly 11, 2007

I for one will be getting Wii fit. I think Miyamoto let Reggie win.

Ian SaneJuly 11, 2007

"Is it me or they pretty much ignored the hardcore crowd?"

That's been Nintendo's policy since the day Iwata first talked about targeting non-gamers a few years back. It's very disappointing but not the least bit surprising. Nintendo is EA: mainstream sales are all that matters.

Wow, with everyone clamoring to see the next big Wii Sports, you'd think we'd have enjoyed getting our wish.

I missed the first half of the conference, but from what I hear, I don't get why people are upset. Hello? Mario Kart? 32 player MoH? Galaxy? Have people forgotten that this is a Nintendo conference, and we love Nintendo games??? That's enough for me right there, and between SSBB and Mario Galaxy how much more hardcore first party can you actually handle?

So Nintendo didn't do a big game rundown where they stand up there and show trailers for each and every game that's coming out this year like MS did. So what? They did something better... they got Reggie on a weighing scale.

GalfordJuly 11, 2007

The Mario Kart announcement has a bomb for those who like it, but I'm not a big fan of the series
so I really couldn't care less.

Really, though no another new bombs?

Yeah, "hardcore", I mean "traditional" gamers were not the focus of that conference.
What's new, Nintendo doesn't like traditional gamers anymore.

PaleMike Gamin, Contributing EditorJuly 11, 2007

I think the conference went extremely well. Wii Fit looks like they actually went the extra mile. The accessory is great. I mean, that game could have easily been another Hold the Remote in your hand and march type game.

Mario Kart Online and so soon is great... and the last thing I ever thought would happen was restated... All three big guns are coming out this year.

Ian SaneJuly 11, 2007

"I missed the first half of the conference, but from what I hear, I don't get why people are upset. Hello? Mario Kart? 32 player MoH? Galaxy? I don't buy Nintendo products just to play sequels. In fact part of the reason I became a Nintendo fan in the first place was because they didn't overly rely on sequels. They made a lot of new stuff and their sequels were usually very fresh and introduced new ideas. So while I'm excited about Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 I want more than that. I want something like Pikmin that's just new and crazy and out of nowhere. But these the new ideas seem to be reserved for non-games. Nintendo thinks that hardcore gamers just want sequels. I don't. If Nintendo keeps this up I'm going to completely lose interest.

Plus everyone knew Mario Kart was coming eventually and the rest of the big "hardcore" games were already annouced. It makes for a dull E3 when the big surprise is non-gamer focused.

Plus I've been waiting for the "new Miyamoto IP" for a while now and it's something you couldn't pay me to give a sh!t about. So maybe I would feel a little neglected.

Nintendo's enthusiasm and creativity is all going towards the new audience. As good as the sequels are they kind of feel like token scraps to keep the old fans around.

So... you basically want Pikmin 3 then? Or is that too much of a sequel for you?

PaleMike Gamin, Contributing EditorJuly 11, 2007

Ian I don't think Miyamoto had anything to do with Wii Fit. I believe he just wanted to introduce it.

Gee, you'd think experience junkies would be more adventurous and less close-minded.

Ian SaneJuly 11, 2007

"So... you basically want Pikmin 3 then? Or is that too much of a sequel for you?"

Well Pikmin 3 would be cool (I don't hate sequels, just don't want JUST sequels) but I want something that gives me the same feeling the first Pikmin did. That feeling of wonder and discovery. When Nintendo makes a new IP it's like someone just discovered a new world and you get to explore it. But with non-games it's like a new apartment. You walk in every room and you're done in five minutes.

Hmm... I guess I see what you're saying then. Non-games are great fun, but they're not hardcore fantastic escapism.

MashiroJuly 11, 2007

Well the Sony conference isn't done yet but so far Nintendos' press conference seemingly is the best.
