EA Announces MySims Created Especially for the Wii and Nintendo DS Platforms

Popular Video Game Series Embraces Player Creativity, Customization and Personal Expression Through a New, Delightful Cast of Characters

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- Electronic Arts announced today that the company is developing MySims™, the first game in a revolutionary new line from the developers of the blockbuster franchise The Sims, designed especially for the Wii™ and Nintendo DS™ platforms.

MySims introduces a charming cast of whimsical characters while delivering the creativity, customization and classic open-ended gameplay that has enchanted Sims players worldwide. Players begin by creating their own toy-like Sim that reflects their personal style and attitudes. From pig-tails and baseball caps to dreadlocks and Mohawks, the options are endless and the style is unlike any Sims game to date. By unlocking cool new clothing, hairstyles and accessories, players explore the game’s incredible depth of customization and expression… and the characters are just the beginning!

Transforming the traditional Sims gameplay for the Wii and Nintendo DS platforms, MySims moves the player to a delightful but disorganized town where – thanks to the easy and unique controls – they can re-shape everything and make it their own. The town is rundown, but the player can make it much more dynamic. Using a selection of building blocks, unique patterns and engaging creativity tools, players can design furniture and appliances, architect new homes and businesses, and re-define the entire MySims landscape!

As players explore and build up the town, they will get to know dedicated, long-time residents like the always-busy Mayor Rosalyn P. Marshall and Buddy – the mostly-lazy hotel Bellhop. Once things start to look up, they’ll meet and choose from a variety of colorful, would-be residents. Will they build a restaurant for Gino Delicioso the Italian Chef, or will they help Ocean Breeze set up his Yoga studio instead?

Design is everyone’s domain in MySims. From building a new Pizza Oven for Gino to putting the finishing touches on a new roof for Buddy’s busy hotel, each completed task will help the town grow. As it expands to new areas, players will receive special building blocks, decorations and patterns which help customize their unique creations. From furniture and buildings to the town as a whole, every choice informs how residents and visitors feel and behave.

“We want MySims to provide a creative play experience like never before on a video game system," said Executive Producer Tim LeTourneau. “By giving players the tools to create literally any kind of world they want in MySims, we’re reinforcing the idea that the players create the magic. Will the town support a plethora of spooky, mysterious townsfolk – or buzz with the laughter and smiles of fun-loving Sims? It’s your call! In MySims, what players make… makes all the difference!"

MySims will be available for the Wii and Nintendo DS platforms in fall 2007.

EA Shows Wii Line-up

SSX Blur, Tiger Woods, The Godfather, Medal of Honor, and MySims are being shown tonight.

EA Will Lead the Next Wave on Wii

SSX Blur, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR, The Godfather Blackhand Edition and Medal of Honor Vanguard, All Custom-Designed and Coming to the Wii This Spring As Well As Exciting News about MySims

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.-- Electronic Arts Inc., plans to lead the next wave on the Wii™ from Nintendo with the release of SSX™ Blur, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR® 07, The Godfather® Blackhand Edition and Medal of Honor Vanguard™ this spring and share exciting news about MySims™, set to launch in fall of 2007. Each title remains true to the hallmarks of its franchise but is designed to take full advantage of the Wii from Nintendo’s one-of-a-kind controller and the other unique features of this revolutionary gaming platform. The games will be showcased tonight at EA’s press event in San Francisco, CA.

“The Nintendo Wii has allowed us to explore new and exciting game play possibilities and attract a whole new audience to EA games,“ said Paul Lee, President, Worldwide Studios, EA. “In the upcoming year, we will continue to custom-design our most popular franchises and develop new EA properties that take full advantage of this unique gaming platform."

Building on the excitement surrounding the recent announcement that MySims is being developed especially for the Wii platform, The Sims Division is thrilled to unveil a new level in game. Just beyond Town Center lies the forest — a wild and wondrous world filled with giant trees and hidden nooks. Explorers can follow winding paths and search dark crannies, never knowing what surprise lies around the next bend. Perhaps it’s a mysterious new plant, ripe and ready for harvesting, or maybe they will encounter a hidden cave. By searching out every corner, players will expand their MySims world and greatly increase their creative space. Expect this first game in a revolutionary new line from the developers of The Sims Division in fall 2007.

SSX Blur is everything you expect from the franchise, delivered in a totally unexpected way. Revolutionary controls take full advantage of the potential of the Wii by putting you in total command of your skier or rider, on-the-ground and in-the-air, by translating every motion you make into skills that create mountain legends. Tear down the mountain with one of your hands and unleash a virtually unlimited array of aerial maneuvers with the other one. This is the soul of SSX, remixed, re-energized, and fully realized.

Perfect your swing using the Wii Remote as you earn respect and climb the ranks in Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 07. The top-selling golf video game franchise is packed with new content, including 18 championship courses and 35 pro and fantasy golfers. The power and control of every swing are literally in your hands. Whether you tilt the Wii Remote to hook and slice the ball or swing away for a long straight drive, the innovative game controller provides the most realistic golfing experience that has ever been felt or seen. The Nunchuk can also be attached for the traditional analog swing.

The Godfather Blackhand Edition gives an enhanced experience with motion-based Blackhand Control by integrating Nintendo’s innovative Wii controller. The Godfather Blackhand Edition for the Wii offers brand new ways to go from Soldier to Don as you gain control of the streets of New York. Follow the path of an Enforcer or Operator; each with its own unique perks and abilities to earn. For improved, hyper-intuitive control in The Godfather Blackhand Edition, use gestures with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to perform true-to-life actions and accuracy.

Join the ranks of the elite 82nd Airborne Division as Corporal Frank Keegan in Medal of Honor Vanguard. From Operation Husky on the shores of Sicily to your Operation Varsity airdrop inside Nazi Germany, you’ll jump behind enemy lines to fight the epic WWII battles that turned America’s first paratroopers into heroes of WWII. Choose from a variety of authentic, customizable weapons at your disposal, each with distinct characteristics. Featuring spectacular graphics and all-out combat intensity, Medal of Honor Vanguard makes you the driving force in the struggle to liberate Europe.

SSX Blur, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 07, The Godfather Blackhand Edition, and Medal of Honor Vanguard will all carry an MSRP of $49.99.

I'm pretty sure they say something along those lines for every non-PC Sims game. I'm getting pretty sick of these Sims sequels, though. EA, at leasts corporately, especially with recruiting, tries to make it look like it's an original IP. While it is in reality, I think most of us know that by this point the Sims has been whored to death with very few differences between one iteration and the next.
My little cousin bought Sims Petz 2, or whatever it's called, the second pet one. She was playing it, and she placed a hot tub outside the owner's home. I asked her what it had to do with the pet she had, and her response was that it was for the owner. See, apparently from my experience with the Sims Pets games, it's just the same as a Sims game, except that a pet is there. It seems like it'd be a pretty disgusting thing to work as a creative designer or something for EA. That's just my opinion though. It seems like the only person who somewhat gets to do anything creative is Will Wright, but only in short bursts, and then he has to whore out that creative thing for about ten years. Who knows how long we'll see Spore sequels, updates, and spin-offs.

Except Spore looks freaking awesome.

OMGOMGOMG I WANT THIS! I'm finally re-excited about Sims ever since the very first game!!!

I wonder if the DS and Wii versions of this game will hook up too...

It sounds to me like they are trying to pull some Animal Crossing juju into it. If you've seen images, there is a totally different graphic style too.

PopeRealFebruary 26, 2007

hey this sims actually sounds good... don't care for the pc or other console/portable ones so far....

couchmonkeyFebruary 26, 2007

Thatguy: I think Will Wright has very little to do with the assembly-line sequels to his games. I think Wright has probably been working solidly on Spore ever since The Sims 2 came out, maybe even before then. Being a low-rung worker at EA would be kind of boring, but then again word on the street is that the game industry in general is very unforgiving. One of my profs at University once compared videogame programmers to prostitutes - they work long hours on difficult jobs for so-so pay and if they don't get promoted to a better position they quickly burn out.

Prostitutes get promotions?

Smash_BrotherFebruary 26, 2007

No online?

Meh.

Infernal MonkeyFebruary 26, 2007

With this, the Theme Park port, Sim City DS and SSX Blur, EA wises from their gwaves. Kind of.

Models and actors, dummy. Or maybe it's the other way, prostitutes are the demoted actors and models.

Now that I've seen pictures of the game, I have to say, it looks like it plays exactly like the sims, only this time, everything is designed by fisher-price.

CalibanFebruary 26, 2007

I never saw the appeal in the Sims, well at least I know I'm not buying this game.

Every time I play the Sims, I can't help but laugh at how stupid the AI is. Kitchen fire? Put it out with your hands. No ladder out of that pool? Too bad. Quit mourning your dead wife. Go to toliet you pinko dumbass. Why does it take you 1 1/2 hours to cook breakfast???

For me, the Sims can go to hell.
