Really, the game is hard. And awesome. And it's out now.

Agents Are Go! Nintendo's Elite Beat Agents Are on the Case

Users Keep the Beat With This Over-the-Top Touch Generations Rhythm Game

REDMOND, Wash., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Nintendo's Elite Beat Agents(TM) are international men of mystery, but the only licenses they carry are licenses to boogie. This Nintendo DS(TM) game is all about the music with a branching storyline: The more accurately players can tap to rhythmic pop music patterns on the touch screen, the better the story turns out. It's a crazy mix of music, dancing and madness that has already received rave reviews -- and it's available in North America on Nov. 8.

Coupled with a collection of quirky story lines and hilarious characters, Elite Beat Agents boasts a number of popular tunes, including "Rock This Town," "Walkie Talkie Man," "Material Girl," "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and more. Playable on the Nintendo DS, this unique mix of rhythm and dance offers music fans the chance to get their groove on no matter where they are. It's a head-bopping, toe-tapping phenomenon made portable just in time for the holidays.

"Elite Beat Agents is a fantastic addition to our holiday lineup," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "It offers a one-of-a-kind game experience that appeals to everyone, from first-time players to hard-core gamers, making it an ideal fit for our Touch Generations brand, which includes games and experiences that anyone can easily pick up and play."

Elite Beat Agents follows the riotous exploits of three secret agents who help people overcome everyday problems by infusing their targets with "groovy" energy. Whether the mission is to help a lost dog find his way home or aid a babysitter in charming a hunky football player, people of all ages will be lured in by the game's fun and amusing story lines. After all, who wouldn't want the chance to save the day? So, get out your DS Lite because ... "AGENTS ARE GO!"

Elite Beat Agents, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older, will be available Nov. 8. For more information about the title, visit www.EliteBeatAgents.com. Talkback

My budget allows one new release each month... this is it.

wanderingNovember 06, 2006

The wee Wii fund can't take much more of this, captain!

BloodworthDaniel Bloodworth, Staff AlumnusNovember 06, 2006

Buy this game!

You have to walk your way through the "Cruisin'" difficulty to get to the real game, but once you're Sweatin', Elite Beat Agents will OWN you. And if the song list seems shorter than you remember, that's because you have to get big scores for the rest.

Karl Castaneda #2November 06, 2006

I agree with Bloodworth. I've gone through around 10 songs, and I'm enjoying it immensely. Perhaps more than any other DS game thus far.

Smash_BrotherNovember 06, 2006

Wait, you have to unlock the last songs by getting better scores? That's new...

NWR_pap64Pedro Hernandez, Contributing WriterNovember 06, 2006

So, would you guys say that having to unlock the additional songs adds to the challenge or is it frustrating?

Unlocking the songs I see as a challenge, forcing you to get better at the songs and adds replayibility (sp?), but I am worried that I won't be able to move on because I am severely stuck on a song and I need to beat it in order to get to the next set of songs.

TJ SpykeNovember 06, 2006

Damn, so many games I can't get because I need to save all my money for the Wii, otherwise I would get this right away.

BloodworthDaniel Bloodworth, Staff AlumnusNovember 06, 2006

Well Ouendan progressed by unlocking groups of songs as well. What's new in EBA are the last three bonus songs that can only be unlocked by hitting certain lifetime score benchmarks, such as 10 million points.

Nick DiMolaNick DiMola, Staff AlumnusNovember 07, 2006

I'm so going to buy this right now.

NWR_pap64Pedro Hernandez, Contributing WriterNovember 07, 2006

Did you guys notice that Nintendo has labeled EBA as part of the TOUCH GENERATIONS DS line??

This is perhaps the most UN Touch generations game available. Maybe Nintendo hopes that EBA is to casual gamers as Guitar hero is to the hardcore.

If you think about it, the gameplay is easy to learn, the music is mainstream and the stories are somewhat set in reality.

Still, this is a surprising addition. Maybe Ian will stop complaining about the Touch generation games lacking depth... :p

Just bought it. I shoulda reserved it because then I'd have my own copy instead of Gamestop's last copy. I feel guilty now. I've learned my lesson though...

Time to play!

OK, this is a question for those that are playing EBA and have played Ouendan to death...

Would you say EBA captures the heart and high energy spirit of Ouendan, or does it fail miserable? Does EBA compare to Ouendan in greatness or is it a pale imitation?

I ask because just now a friend of mine from another forum that I visit, who happens to be a HUUUUUGE Ouendan fan, posted his impressions on EBA and he feels the game is just...bleh.

I have the gut feeling that those that rank Ouendan VERY, and I mean VERY high will think EBA is a disappointment because both games, while similar in gameplay and concept, are very different from each other.

EBA IS NOT BLEH.

... the only thing that makes it worse than Ouendan is that the "Ouendan" screams in the original are TONS BETTER than the "HEEEAAALLLPPP" renditions in EBA. EBA's "EEAAALLLPPP" sounds are atrocious.

EBA is not quite as wacky as Ouendan, but I'm not sure how much Ouendan's comedy is boosted by the cultural divide. Also, EBA's normal difficulty is a bit toned down, so you won't get to the good stuff until you're about at the 13th song or so. I've been playing for two days straight and have tried a bajillion times to beat the last song on the hardest difficulty. That should be all the evidence you need for awesomeness.

I think it's listed as touch generations because you almost never have to push any buttons. That's just my theory though.

That, and maybe Nintendo thinks the mainstream songs will appeal to non gamers. Even though I grew up listening to latin music I have heard at least once all of the songs in EBA. Maybe Nintendo thinks that with the songs being so universally known it will encourage people of all ages to pick it up and try.

Also, the humor in Ouedan was heavily based on anime cliches, while the stories in EBA seem more like both a parody of pop culture (the Carrington Sisters being parodies of the Hilton sisters) and sitcom situations (girl gets stuck babysitting and such).

how hard is to get Ouendam now? Id love to get both games, but I can only get one and I like the music on Ouendam more.

You guys are really tempting me to spend more mnoney on yet another game that I never would have thought of buying (the first being Phoenix Wright). But I am overly skeptical that I would not enjoy this one, some one want to reassure me and offer to buy it from me if I don't like it? face-icon-small-wink.gif

at first I was discouraged by the price, but actually, with all the shipping costs and all, its cheaper than buying a DS game here in a store, Im so getting this, thanks!

BloodworthDaniel Bloodworth, Staff AlumnusNovember 08, 2006

I broke the 25 million point barrier today to unlock Survivor. Great song.

SvevanEvan Burchfield, Staff AlumnusNovember 08, 2006

The one by Destiny's Child? Are we talking about the same song?

BloodworthDaniel Bloodworth, Staff AlumnusNovember 08, 2006

yes, that is the song

SvevanEvan Burchfield, Staff AlumnusNovember 08, 2006

Let's not use the word "great" with Destiny's Child.

BloodworthDaniel Bloodworth, Staff AlumnusNovember 08, 2006

Man you got think in terms of the beat. Just like you might not listen to dance music when you go home, a song in a music game is all about the beat. The only two songs I don't care for are "You're the Inspiration" and whatever the sappy song is that plays in the Leonardo da Vinci story.

SvevanEvan Burchfield, Staff AlumnusNovember 08, 2006

I'll think in terms of beat when I beat you to the ground OH SNAP

Well, as an impulse buy as I was picking up Children of Mana today I also bought EBA. I haven't opened yet, but I will soon enough. I hope its as good as you all say and I like it as much as the rest of you.

KDR_11kNovember 10, 2006

I suppose this game is pointless to play if you have your DS muted 90% of the time?

BloodworthDaniel Bloodworth, Staff AlumnusNovember 11, 2006

uhh.... yeah. Buy some headphones.
