Genesis Virtual Console Games Revealed?

Seven of them are listed with ratings on the ESRB site, so it seems likely.

The ESRB's website has been updated with ratings for a few Wii games, mostly from publishers like Ubisoft and Midway. Most interesting among the list was a group of seven games published by Sega that are (for the moment) Wii-exclusive titles.

The list of games might sound familiar. Ecco The Dolphin, Altered Beast, Toe Jam & Earl, Golden Axe, Columns, Sonic the Hedgehog and Ristar were all hits on the 16-bit Sega Genesis, and appear to be the first batch of classics bound for Nintendo's Virtual Console service on Wii. All seven games have been rated "E" for Everyone by the ratings board.

This list of Genesis titles is good news, but it could also be a sign that Virtual Console will be available to Wii owners at the system's launch: There would be little point in getting games rated this early if they wouldn't be available until next year.

We'll know for sure on Thursday, when Nintendo is expected to tell all about the Wii's launch details.

That looks like a pretty good starting list to me! I never got to play Ecco or Toe Jam & Earl, but I wanted to play both, so I'm in luck. And we all know how much Golden Axe rules.

The only one I haven't played on that list is Ristar, but its good to see something a little more concrete get "confirmed" before the conference on thursday.

I don't know if this is detective work on the part of PGC or not, but to whomever it may concern: Good job. This is totally something I would've skimmed straight over, but looking at it I don't think one could conclude much else from this.

You know, and maybe I'm a little giddy seeing this, but this is exactly the kind of thing I wanted to see just to be sure that Nintendo isn't screwing around with the online biz. If this all pans out, I'll have had no problems with them having been so lax in the GameCube's life. The line "We'll implement online functionality when we think the market is right" won't just be BS, and they'll actually sound like they knew what they were doing.
again.

Ristar is totally out of left field in comparison to the other games.

Altered Beast and Golden Axe were arcade games ported to the Genesis. In general I would say the arcade versions are better yet I would imagine these are straight Genesis ports. Now the Genesis versions are good in their own right but it's kind of a shame that outdated home conversions are still being used when we now have the technology to have arcade perfect versions. It's like Nintendo constantly re-releasing the NES version of Donkey Kong.

Ecco and Golden Axe?! AWESOME!!!!!! Made it all the way to the creatures that steal your family in Ecco, I was invincible the first time through. The game glitched up on the semengly last boss, so I had to restart with out my super powers and never could beat it. Always loved it, don't know why so many people didn't.
