SEGA'S AWARD-WINNING GUNSTAR SUPER HEROES CHARGES INTO STORES THIS WEEK

SAN FRANCISCO (October 25, 2005) – Awarded GBA Game of E3 2005 by IGN.com; and dubbed Best Game Boy® Advance Game at E3 by GameSpot.com: SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced the release of Gunstar Super Heroes™, the award-winning sequel to the classic 2D action-shooter, Gunstar Heroes™. This new adventure, developed exclusively for the Game Boy Advance, offers the relentless action, precision gunplay, and brilliant visuals that have become the trademark of Treasure, the game's legendary development team.

Blue and Red, the lead characters in Gunstar Super Heroes, must once again keep a stone of great power from falling into the hands of an evil empire intent on resurrecting the God of Ruin. Both characters take on the same adventure using different paths, effectively making for two unique play-through experiences. Players will tackle six wildly inventive levels and take on gigantic bosses that fill the entire Game Boy Advance screen.

"Gunstar Super Heroes offers an action-packed arcade experience for newcomers and a major gaming milestone for hardcore fans," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Entertainment Marketing, SEGA of America. "SEGA and Treasure are teaming up again to give fans the sequel they've always wanted, and this eagerly anticipated game is sure to be talked about by gaming enthusiasts for years to come."

Within the game, playful references abound, including a beautifully retooled original Gunstar Heroes level, references to classic SEGA Genesis® games, and a bevy of other fan-tailored treats. Crisp 2D graphics, easy to pick up gameplay, multiple difficulty levels, and an accessible save system makes Gunstar Super Heroes an ideal title to enjoy on the Game Boy Advance.

Gunstar Super Heroes has also received the following accolades for its visual excellence and superior gameplay: 1UP.com E3 award for Best GBA Game, 1UP.com 2005 Best of TGS award for Best GBA Game, IGN.com E3 award for Best Action Game on GBA, and IGN.com E3 award for Best Graphics on GBA.

Gunstar Super Heroes is rated "E10+" (Everyone 10 and older – Fantasy Violence and Suggestive Themes) by the Entertainment Software Review Board, and is now available at retailers nationwide for an MSRP of $29.95.

I've read some good reviews but there's a problem with them. All the reviews are by people who haven't played the original Gunstar Heroes. So maybe Gunstar Super Heroes is a good game but I want a good Gunstar Heroes game and that's not the same thing. So anyone know of any reviews or impressions from people who have played the first game? They removed co-op, weapon mixing and throwing and those are like, you know, three of the main reasons why the original game kicked so much ass. The removal of multiplayer is reason enough for me to never have anything to do with this game but it is Treasure and it is getting good reviews so I remain curious. So I obviously need some impressions from someone qualified.

GameSpy's review is pretty good. You can tell the guy really liked the original and he makes some comparisons between it and the remake. It might not go as in-depth as you'd like, but it's a start.

Neat. Since I missed CT and Contra Advance I'll grab this one when it finally comes out in Europe, which is probably some time in 2007.

I remember a time when THQ Europe announced they'd release it around November, with an exciting, totally useless renamed title. Those were the days! Now the game has been taken off release lists altogether, along with Nanostray, which was meant to come out last month. <3 THQ.

I got this the day after it came out. Not bad, but then again I have only been through the very first level so far.
