E3 Bingo Cards: Revisited

Danny's Correct Answers

by Danny Bivens - August 27, 2012, 12:54 am EDT

I find your lack of correct answers disturbing.

My original predictions

Egads. I knew I had a lot of unrealistic hopes on my bingo card, but I had no idea it would turn out this badly. I thought I would go a little bit crazy with my picks to not be lame, but man, I think next year I’m totally going to try to play it safe. Let’s take a look at some of my picks in detail, starting with my correct predictions.

Updated Classic Controller Pro

Nintendo did deliver on this with the inception of the Wii U Controller Pro. The controller even includes clicky analog sticks to provide the same functionality that can be found in competing controllers, making it easier for developers delivering titles across multiple platforms. I think a lot of gamers out there, myself included, are glad to see that this new controller will be available.

Confirmed Use of Two GamePads

Reggie just came right out and said it as if it were something that should have never came into question. However, in a recent interview he did say that none of the launch or launch window titles will be supporting the feature. Still, it’s good to know that it’s there.

Pikmin 3 Wii U at Launch

We all knew it was in development. We all knew it had to surface sooner or later. This was probably the safest one of my predictions. Myself and Pikmin fans all over the world are pleased with this one.

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon November Release

This is kind of right; the game is supposed to come out in the second half of 2012. November’s included in that. I’ll take a half point on it for now.

For those counting at home, my picks netted me a whopping 3.5 points. Yahoo!

Wrong Answer Analysis

There are way too many incorrect answers to discuss them all, so I’ll just talk about a few here, starting first with Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask not getting a North American release date. The game is already getting a localization for the European market and is set to see a release this fall. The minimal support of first party Nintendo 3DS-related content at the show might have had something to do with this.

I had predicted that Retro Studios would reveal a new Legend of Zelda title that they were working on for Wii U. Not only did that not happen, but we still have no idea what Retro is so busy working on. It’s a complete shame, but with their development history, I’m sure whatever it is they are working on will not disappoint.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 for Wii U was surprisingly not talked about either. It wasn't until after the show that the game was discovered to be coming to the console. With Black Ops 2 being one of the biggest titles of the year (as is every Call of Duty game), I found it surprising that there wasn’t a word uttered publicly at the show. I wasn’t necessarily expecting an on-stage demo with the developers, but I was surprised that there wasn't at least a video clip thrown into a sizzle reel.
