The Planet GameCube E3 2004 Awards

We honor the best of everything at E3 2004.

Electronic Entertainment Expo 2004: Louie congratulates this year's winners.

After a hiatus last year (partly due to the fact that E3 2003 just wasn't very exciting), the Planet GameCube E3 2004 Awards, a.k.a. "The Louies", are finally here. Our purpose is simple: to commend the best games, hardware, and memories from E3 2004.

In keeping with the nature of our site, we limited nominees to games to be released on Nintendo platforms. In addition, games must have been playable to all show attendees, not just behind closed doors. All Planet GameCube staff members were allowed to vote, some based on their hands-on experiences at the show, others based on what they have seen and read of these games online. Games that might have been labeled "shooters" were included in the "action" category, as some of the nominees were not really appropriate for such a narrowly defined genre. Finally, no audio awards are given because it's too difficult to hear games at E3, and Nintendo did not offer insulated surround-sound demo stations this year.

We hope you will enjoy seeing our picks for the best of E3...and remember, some games just don't work well as a ten minute demo, while others are still very early or have appeared at E3 too many times to generate much excitement at the show. That doesn't mean that they won't turn out to be great games when finished!

Okay, enough blathering. On with the show!
