Well, it finally happened: the Wii U has launched. Hopefully you understand our excitement, because today's show is all Wii U all the time.

Starting things off, Carmine, Zack, and Phil breakdown the various Wii U ads that have appeared in North America, Europe, and Japan. The crew discusses the pros and cons of each (spoiler: everyone loves the "Super Wii") and tries to decide which does the best of conveying what the new system is all about.

After that, Neal, Mike, Andy, and Zach share their Wii U launch stories, which all seem decidedly pedestrian. They then talk about the games they picked up at launch, mostly dealing with Nintendo Land and ZombiU. How was your Wii U launch? Let us know!

Rounding things out, Carmine and Zack are back one more time to talk about the future of the Wii U. Yes, even at one week old, it's never too early to consider the eventual legacy of the Wii U and hypothesize about how it will be remembered.

So that's that. As always, you can click here to send us listener mail, and you totally should. Tell us all about your first week with Wii U and how it has met (or failed to meet) your expectations. Thanks for listening!

Talkback

Marketing confusion is already in full force.  Many people who comes in and out of our stores aren't aware that the Wii U exist, and some think that the Wii is just another add on, like the balance board or just another game.

Nintendo is not doing a good enough job.

It'll need to be shown on popular daytime tv talk shows again to get some units moving at a fast pace once the core Nintendo gamers, the early adopters, have already bought their systems..

It seems like asymmetrical is pronounced with the "long a" sound.

The core Nintendo audience have been shrinking generation after generation, thanks to Xbox and Playstation consoles.  The Wii U will have to do something to get those gamers and more development teams and publishers interested, or it'll be just another "Gamecube" to Sony's a Microsoft's next systems, with weaker third party support than PS4 and 720.

I believe that Nintendo's holding back too much too information.  It could be one of the reasons why so many gamers aren't too interested in the Wii U.
Many of us wants to know what popular game franchises are on the way to Wii U after the launch window.  Is it really Nintendo and 3rd party companies holding back information, or is 3rd party support not really all there?

ZombiU sounds like a very cool game  :D
I'd love a sequel as well.

Yes, I'm just getting to this episode.  It was a busy end of the semester.  With the launch of most of Nintendo TVii today, the timing is also perfect.

One part of the third segment that caught my attention was Zack's concern that Nintendo TVii could turn out to be another Nintendo Video.

The key difference that ensures TVii's success in my mind is that this isn't Nintendo's attempt at making a proprietary viewing format, as is the case with Nintendo Video.  Rather they are compiling various companies that are already successful at what they do into one place, both in the case of playing shows/movies and the social aspects TVii adds to them.  This is already leaps and bounds ahead of Nintendo Video which shares 4 select videos, most of which nobody cares about past the first month or so of owning the system.  Outside of the contained Miiverse (which will enhance TVii through recommendations), Nintendo's ability to work with successful 3rd-party elements can be key in the system's success.

I will say I love NV's menu music, though the 3DS' system music is just great in general.
