Returning for one night only!

We are pleased to announce a Live Radio Trivia Special taking place on Friday, 17 September at 7pm Pacific. Join us for great music, interactive discussions, and the chance to win a prize. Longtime readers will be familiar with the format.

The links for the live stream are below, alternatively use the embedded player (right). The streams will not be live until the start time, so use our NWR Radio links if you wish to test that you will hear us.

Live stream links:
MP3 Stream
OGG Stream

Also, make sure that you're able to connect to our chat room.

The rules are simple.

We will play three tracks from a game that has been released in North America on a Nintendo platform. Guesses consisting of the game title are to be sent by PM in our chat room to the nominated host at any point until after the final song is over, when the host will give a one minute warning before submissions will not be counted.

The first guess counts. However, if no one gets the game correct on their first guess, then second guesses will be counted for points, and so forth. This means that it is best to wait until you are sure of the answer before you make a guess, but if you realise that you're wrong, go ahead and message with your new answer. Everyone who guesses correctly within the "guess limit" scores one point.

Songs will be followed by a bonus question relating to the game. The first person to answer this in the public chat room scores one point.

Three tracks each from four games will be played in total, followed by one bonus track where the North American release rule doesn't apply. In the event of a tie, sudden death will be in effect with single tracks from Nintendo platform games played until one player is unable to answer while the other gives a correct answer.

The winner will receive this Metroid goody bag and two Metroid Metal CDs!

The prize!

More prizes!

Metroid Metal have kindly offered a copy of each of their Metroid CDs, Varia Suite and Expansion Pack to the first prize winner. The winner will have a choice of either the CDs or a download redemption code. The group has been creating their own versions of tracks from the Metroid series since 2003. They recently performed live at PAX 2010. Their songs are available for download on their website, with higher quality mp3s and CDs for purchase in their store. So please check them out for more great game music!

But don't worry, so that no one misses out, anyone who submits the secret phrase, to be revealed on air at the end of the live competition, through our contest form will be put into a random draw for a sealed copy of Metroid Prime Pinball.

Talkback

Ok, I have to play this.  I'm in.  I don't want the prize, I don't need it, but one of the things that first drew me to PGC/NWR is the trivia, radio trivia, or whatever.  I love all sorts of video game trivia.

I'm insanely excited. Live Radio Trivia? Purposterous!

I'll be there with bells on.

That's how I got here.

I know.  People should check out how often you won trivia way back when, before you were staff.  I read over those Q's at some point, and you won just about all of the ones you entered into.  Pretty awesome!

Which eventually resulted in the MegaByte win exclusion rule ;-)

Writing questions/choosing games is fun too, but I'll be playing along this time over the air.

Edit: err no, I won't be able to make it.  I won a text-in radio contest on Monday, which includes tickets to a concert the same evening as Radio Trivia.  Maybe next time!

FZeroBoyoSeptember 08, 2010

Wow, sounds exciting. I'll definitely be looking into that.  ;D

Oh, man, European Sweets!

YankeeSeptember 08, 2010

I missed out on the original live edition, so I'm really pumped for this!

CalibanSeptember 08, 2010

I don't usually work Friday nights, so I'm good to go.

The prize fund just grew! Metroid Metal CDs have now been added to the first prize pack. Thanks, Metroid Metal!

I was never any good at Radio Trivia, including the podcast editions, but I'll give it a try.

BTW, Metroid Metal is awesome. I wish I had been able to see them at PAX, but I had to choose between concerts, so I went for JoCo, Paul and Storm, and MC Frontalot instead.

greybrickNathan Mustafa, Staff AlumnusSeptember 10, 2010

The Varia Suite mixes two of my favorite kinds of music, how could you go wrong?

Remember, you don't have to win the show to win a prize.  We'll have the code phrase to send in.  The only person who can't win that is the winner of the show... well and us.  We can't win.

I really hope I can make it to this to play along / help keep order. If not, I wish everyone the best of luck. Please be civil, and REMEMBER: Nintendo World Report has the final say on who is/are deemed the winner(s). So there.

FZeroBoyoSeptember 17, 2010

So it's tonight, less than twelve hours. I'll make sure I have no distractions.  ;D

I'm angry. We're driving into Denali tonight, a four-hour drive (minimum). The hotel has wi-fi, but it we don't get there in time, I will be sorely disappointed.

Also, you may be eaten alive by mosquitoes.

There's that, too.

that Baby guySeptember 18, 2010

I'm 80% sure I almost won this.

Mop it upSeptember 18, 2010

I did pretty well I think, I was expecting more unknown games. 3 1/2 points isn't so bad at all!

SkiDragonSeptember 18, 2010

I like the live version of this. Does anybody know of anything similar to this, a name-this-tune for video games? I would rather like to see other consoles included too.

that Baby guySeptember 18, 2010

There's none I'm aware of.  I love the live version, too.  I greatly appreciate Karlie and James bringing it back!

SundoulosSeptember 18, 2010

Yes, thank you for hosting Karlie and James!  I had technical difficulties and missed the whole first game, unfortunately.  Even if I didn't do so hot in the scoring, I still had a lot of fun listening to the games and chatting with NWR people old and new.

Thanks to James and Karlie for hosting and a lot of the old NWR crew for playing along with us.

Wario Ware Smooth Moves can sod right off, though.

Congrats to Rimmer, and thank you to everyone who showed up, especially all the NWR Alumni I didn't have a chance to acknowledge!

I hope everyone had fun, I was quite nervous at the start but then time just flew. Would love to see you all back for another round sometime. I found it pretty crazy, so much is happening at once with keeping score, watching the chat, talking, all at the same time, it was tough! But I'm so glad it worked out.

Thanks for your feedback, we did put quite a lot of work into making this happen so it's nice to know that it was appreciated.

I'm glad everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.  Thanks to everyone that came out.  Congrats to our winners (second-chance winner to be notified soon).  Thanks to Karlie for taking on the stressful task of keeping score.

I mixed up the song order (sorry Karlie), but beyond that I think things went off without a hitch.  I think we could have picked more difficult titles, but by and large we picked games we both liked.  I'm very happy with the end result.

KhushrenadaSeptember 20, 2010

Dang it! How'd I miss this? I've been waiting for a live game forever. I thought it was never coming back. And I missed the caption contest too. Well, NWR sure showed me.
