Jon and Jonny side-by-side... what could go wrong? Our 2011 predictions, that's what.

After three years of recording as a quartet, two of our regular crew finally sit together to record a weekly episode of RFN. (Three of us were at the PAX East panel, but that's a different story.) Jonny concludes his graduation victory lap with a stop in chilly Boston, where he joins Mr. Lindemann for pork chops, sweet tea, and rap music. Over the interwebs, Greg and James seem frequently befuddled at their colleagues' intimate joshing. Nevertheless, we manage to pull together a round of New Business with first thoughts on Ghost Trick for DS, Sunsoft's late-era NES gems, the absurdity of Professor Layton, and the unintuitive PlayStation Move.

After the break(down), we look back at a year ago to laugh and cry over our misguided 2010 predictions. Reviewing those dismal results should have deterred us from repeating the exercise, but what have we got to lose? Thus, we tack on brand new predictions about 3DS, Zelda, Pikmin, Super Wii, etc. and also run down our most anticipated games of 2011.

Who knew Jonny could sing, lol. You should have Lindermann on the DMP podcast!

47 minutes in............................... No words...................

Jonny you said you were going to a concert in NYC if I heard correctly. Who you go see?

I saw Phish all three nights at Madison Square Garden (12/30, 12/31, and 1/1). I also got a last-chance ticket to Pee-Wee Herman on Broadway! Epic trip.

I guess you weren't a listener back then, but Karl once used a full-length version of me rickrolling the listeners (I had asked him to just clip out a sample).

Also, Jon's appearance on DMP has long been in the works. We didn't have time while I was in Boston, but I hope to record those shows very soon. He's going to pick out some lesser-known hip-hop artist, and then I'll play Stevie Wonder so he can hear where most hip-hop samples originated.

kraken613January 09, 2011

Jonny you should really look and add to the Album Review thread in the general chat part of the forums. Would love to have some music input from you other than only on DMP.

happyastoriaJanuary 09, 2011

The Last Story looks amazing! I'm pretty sure the game will come to North America. On a side note, I really enjoyed the short segment about Chopin. I never finished Eternal Sonata, but James inspired me to get back into the game.

Do you or Lindy have a background in being a DJ? You guys sounded as if you had experience in doing that kind of stuff.

My predicition is that Skyward Sword will be Nintendo's holiday game for this year and it will be the Wii's true swan song, or atleast from Nintendo. However, through the early part of 2012 Dragon Quest 10 will be released for the Wii in America. By this time Last Story will be released for the Wii in America along with Xenoblade.

The Wii 2 (not Super Wii) will be hinted at this year's E3 but nintendo will then focus their collective energy on boosting the 3DS and setting the DS and Wii on theroad for retirement. The Wii 2 will get a ground breaking reveal at E3 2012 and by then we will have enough info about the 3DS to see where it stands in the market.

SarailJanuary 10, 2011

Listening now, Jonny, and I dunno.. I think we'll get a big reveal about the Super Wii (not Wii 2) at this year's E3. With the 3DS launching in March in America, I fully expect Zelda: Skyward Sword to be Nintendo's big early holiday game -- I'd bet early October.  I'd say the impending Super Wii launch will be March/April of 2012. They need a new home console NOW.

Holly hell that rap! Wtf....I literally "lol"d Great show guys

KDR_11kJanuary 10, 2011

The rap made me glad there's a chapter feature.

If you want strategy that Europa Universalis isn't giving you then maybe look at AI War? It's weird but definitely strategy.

KisakiProjectJanuary 10, 2011

Don't quit your day job.    :Q

Fiendlord_TimmayJanuary 10, 2011

That was the best stinger ever. Is that what it's like during every recording?

By the way Jonny, The Guru of Time in Chrono Trigger is Gaspar, not Balthazar. Way to know your favorite game of all time. :P

ShyGuyJanuary 10, 2011

Timmay!

KisakiProjectJanuary 10, 2011

Also the homoerotic subtext after the credits puts Cho Aniki & Interview With a Vampire to Shame.  Kinda morbidly fascinated for the crosstalk with those two.

mr_lakituJanuary 10, 2011

Hi. I just tweeted you guys but thought I'd throw it out here too. The show doesn't appear to be on iTunes?

TJ SpykeJanuary 10, 2011

It downloaded to me in iTunes yesterday (but I subscribe, I don't know if it shows up in the iTunes store).

mr_lakituJanuary 10, 2011

Ahhh. I sub too but that's on my mac. I usually get it on the store straight from my iPhone and like last weeks which was late this one isn't showing yet :(

BboyJanuary 10, 2011

Just got to the Warren G song. Are you guys hacking my pandora account? That song seriously just came up last night.

Thank God, no.

Although if we deviate from the clapping pattern AT ALL Jon screws it up.

"Okay, we're going to do a clap here for Jonny. The rest of us just keep the file going."
"3, 2, 1"
*CLAP*
"I stopped recording guys."
"DAMN IT JON!"

The one stinger that wasn't recorded was when Jonny got up out of his chair, and since we were sharing earbud headphones he pulled me with him.

"Sorry man, didn't mean to tug you."

The whole conversation about sharing ear buds was traumatizing.

yoshi1001January 10, 2011

Give PictoBits another shot Johnny-with the sound on this time. It's the best five dollars of Nintendo's money I've ever spent.

Holy shit. Do you guys sing Regulate?!?!? No one spoil this. I need to catch up on podcasts right the fuck now.

Never do such a rap on this show, ever again. That said, this episode's stinger is the best yet.

greybrickNathan Mustafa, Staff AlumnusJanuary 11, 2011

Awesome, a rap that involves my most hated nickname! (Nate Dog)

Jonny put me up to it.  I resisted the entire way.

It seems like you're all too willing to bend over backwards to give Jonny what he wants, you didn't really sound like you were struggling.

*giggle*

MoRZJanuary 12, 2011

I am really looking forward to a rap DMP. LOVED this episode. The show has been really strong since 200, even better than it used to be. I really love Greg/Johnny as the responsible hosts and Jon/James as the trollmasters... Only show on my radar that's not hosted on smodcast.com

PogueSquadronJanuary 12, 2011

I'm still new around here (kinda sorta), but I was wondering what the next RetroActive game was, or at least, when it would be voted on?  I heard you guys talking about DKC3, but it sounded like you were just revisiting it for the sake of revisiting it.

TJ SpykeJanuary 12, 2011

Good question, I am interested in when the next RetroActive is as well.

My new rap moniker: "Trollmaster J".
