Judging by video footage shown so far, Super Mario Strikers is shaping up to be a cross between Soccer and Mario Kart. The game will feature numerous Nintendo characters from a variety of Mario related games and weapon-based soccer gameplay.

Weapons revealed so far include the "ice cold shell" (for freezing opponents), tornado, a giant chain chomp and Bowser’s large spiky shell. There will presumably be many more weapons. It is not yet known how such items are attained, how they will be used, and whether or not there are general items and character specific items such as in Mario Kart (or indeed whether or not it is proper to think of the weapons as items at all).

Super Mario Strikers will support 1 to 4 players.
