Army Men Advance

by Jeff Shirley - June 5, 2001, 12:37 pm EDT

They were such fun little toys, weren't they? Well, now they're coming to the GBA in their umpteenth game from 3D0!

3DO is set to release one of their major franchises onto the GBA. The game is Army Men, where those little plastic toy soldiers that you grew up playing with run amok in a brutal war between colors. Can't we all just get along? :D

This game is going to be vastly different from its GBC version, as the developer, DC Studios, has scrapped the the realistic look of the Army Men and gone for a more slapstick cartoon look. Of course, those that have played the game know that what happens to these Army men is nothing funny, and sometimes it can get downright gruesome. Don't ya love it?

The game itself will have 17 levels to run around, as either Sarge or Vikki, to save the world from a tan general named Plastro. The game will not consist of just combat, as there are also puzzles to complete. The levels themsleves are surreal, with the Army Men fighting around sinks and matchboxes and other assorted, magnified landscapes.

As it stands, this is the only 3DO game for the GBA launch. However, 3D0 has big plans for GBA support and apparently plans on concentrating on PS2 & GBA. Rumor has it that we can also expect some 3D0 support for GameCube after that, which means you can probably expect the Army Men to invade NGC too.
