Spider-Man: Mysterio's Menace

by Max Lake - March 22, 2001, 4:10 am EST

Spider-Man is swinging with Activision again and this time will appear in an all-new GBA game pitting him against the Special FX criminal, Mysterio!

Activision takes Spider-Man out for another video game outing, this time on Game Boy Advance. The game is called Spider-Man: Mysterio's Menance and is being developed by Vicarious Visions. Activision will publish the title and list the game for a fall release for GBA.

Spider-Man: Mysterio's Menace will be a 2D side-scroller action game. The game's name comes from one of Spider-Man's most deceptive foes, the master of illusion, Mysterio. Mysterio has hypnotized the entire city of New York, and there's no telling what disaster this will create. Players must rely on Spidey's powers to make their way through Mysterio's illusionary nightmare city. All the classic Spider-Man powers will be incorporated: "Spider-Sense," wall crawling, and web-slinging and will help Spidey return Manhattan to normal.

The types of gameplay modes and the number of levels have yet to be disclosed. Although Mysterio is the only confirmed villain at this time (by virtue of sharing the title w/Spidey), we wouldn't be surprised if other well-known spider-foes showed up. We'll have to see.

Neversoft and Activision did a great job with the Spider-Man game that was released on all systems (the Dreamcast version will be out soon). Activision is hyping the GBA's abilities and claim that its new Spider-Man game will take full advantage of the handheld's stellar capabilities. Therefore, hopes are high that Activision will make another quality game based on this classic comic hero.
