What are these Wii U features like?

Before the release of Injustice: Gods Among Us on the Wii U, a lot was up in the air about the game's Wii U features. After getting my hands on the final version, I can assuage some of those fears, but unfortunately, some others creep up for this otherwise impressive fighting game from the guys who made Mortal Kombat.

On Wii U, the game is feature complete with other versions for what is on the disc. It has every character and every unlockable. You can also use Off-TV Play very easily. If you're using the GamePad while playing on the TV, you can have moves displayed on the GamePad. That's not usable, though, as you still need to take your eyes away from the action to view the moves anyway. The font is too small to be useful at a quick glance.

Online play was workable. I ran into a few matches with bouts of lag, but nothing that ruined the experience. However, you can only set up battles through matchmaking. For some reason, you have no option to set up a private match, which is possible in the other versions from what I have heard.

While there is no season pass available, there will be DLC for this game. A lot of the pre-order bonuses and other associated offers, such as the alternate costumes in the iOS version, aren't compatible with the Wii U version, though. Since no DLC is available right now, I can't vouch for the experience of accessing the DLC, or if the Wii U will even get the same love that the other versions will.

As for the actual game content, I loved my sordid night with Injustice. The story mode seems rather short, but it weaves an interesting Elseworlds tale that makes use of a lot of different DC characters. The S.T.A.R. Labs missions are also a lot of fun, as they give you varied objectives for each match. While my time with the game has reminded me how much I suck at combos, Injustice appears to be friendly enough to rookies and contain enough depth to be interesting to genre veterans.

We'll have a full review of Injustice on Wii U in the next week or so, but unless Off-TV play is an absolute deal breaker for you, it seems like the 360 and PS3 versions are the ones to get if you have the option.

Are you saying you can't go online and fight people on your friends list? That's ludicrous.

I meant to go get this game.... but I didn't know it came out yesterday.
Guess I will have to stop at the store maybe tomorrow and see if it's in stock.

or maybe wait for a sale...

I wonder if they didn't have time for off TV play and the DLC content and if that can be fixed with patch/update in the upcoming weeks. I'm really excited for the game but the lack of other console features is a real deal killer for me and I fear this is the 'crappy Wii U version" not an equal version.

I might wait to pick this up on sale in a few months and hopefully they patch it and add stuff to be on par with other versions .

The game supports Off-TV play.

Indeed you can.

Noticed my wording was somewhat vague. Going to rework it so it's clearer.
