Ubisoft gets on "board" with the Wii U theme park fad.

With Rabbids Land joining Nintendo Land, it seems to be the "year of the theme park" on Wii U. Here, the Rabbids have taken over a theme park. Rabbids Land promises attractions that focus on highlighting the Wii U's asymmetrical gameplay possibilities and the game looks to be another solid addition to Ubisoft's Wii U line-up.

We had a chance to try out a couple of the mini-games in two-player mode, one showcasing competition, and the other cooperation. The first mini-game featured competitive marble rolling. One player takes control of a large yellow ball, while the other simultaneously controls three green balls. The player with the green ball must collect crystals that are scattered throughout the maze and there are gates that only the green balls can pass through. The yellow player tries to destroy the three green balls by crashing into them.

The second mini-game was a unique take on the memory matching game that required verbal cooperation between players. The game also put the Rabbids' crude humor front-and-center. One screen showed the front of a line-up of Rabbids, while the other showed the back. Players had to lift the skirts/shorts of each Rabbid and a symbol would be displayed. One matching set that must be found from among the symbols and they're matched when both Rabbid's clothes are held up. Players have to verbally communicate what they see in order to find the pair, and several sets of Rabbids must be matched in a limited time period to successfully complete the mini-game.

We saw a third mini-game that involved a colorful roller-coaster and Ubisoft promises at least 20 mini-games. Rabbids Land connects the games through a board game mechanic similar to Mario Party, but we weren't able to see how it's all tied together.

Rabbids Land will be one of the first games to put a major focus on asymmetrical multiplayer and thus will be one of the first third-party games to put the Wii U's possibilities to the test. The differing goals are a highlight of the system and has the potential to make party games more interesting. From what we saw, Rabbids Land will make a great party game that plays off of the competitive-cooperative dynamic and features lots of the absurd humor that the Rabbids series is known for.
