Pac-Man Fever

by Ty Shughart - May 23, 2002, 9:36 am EDT

Or 'Soul Calibur vs Tekken Party.'

I sat down for some of Namco's Soul Calibur Pac-Man Fever, and immediately got into the goofy fun. It's definitely more than just Namco's Mario Party.

The game definitely seems to have some humor to it. Instead of just boring ol' Pac-Man and Ms Pac-Man, there's lovable chibi sized versions of characters such as Astaroth, Tiger, and Heihachi. Tiger funky-walks from square to square and characters do their fun victory poses after each mini-game.

Speaking of mini-games, there's some good action packed stuff in here. There's wacky stuff like:

  • The hamster ball game where you attempt to sink characters in holes as rapidly possible

  • The alien abduction game - try to abduct as many aliens with your little UFO as possible! Crazy.

  • Whack a ghost!

  • A floaty innertube game. I only caught a glace of this, but it reminded me of the event in Ski or Die.

  • Darts!

There's probably lots more, those are just the ones I've played. The graphics are lookin' good and the control feels alright. The one-player mode might not be bad, as I didn't see any insane upsets in the time I played.

I was laughing and having a great time. I really like this one.
