Eternal Darkness

by Joe Fletcher - August 25, 2001, 9:22 am EDT

It's got a new name, as well as Japanese subtitles...but how much has Eternal Darkness improved at Space World?

The graphics have definitely improved over the E3 version, which is saying quite a bit. This game graphically puts Resident Evil CV to shame. There are still a few rough parts where the fog flickers and such, but for the most part it's flawless.

Gameplay was a bit weird, plays like a much faster version of RE. The blonde girl carries a nice shotgun, which was pretty cool at first, but got annoying really quick. If you raise your shotgun to attack, it takes another 1/4 second to lower it again before you can run. With the restrictive camera angles like in any survival horror game, this means that by the time you see a zombie, you can't get away. I hope that changes before the full version. The pink haired girl was quite a bit better. With a rapier type weapon, she can attack quickly and reacts much much faster than the blond. Much better gameplay experience.

Downside though is that within the 10 minutes that I spent waiting to play it, two game machines crashed and had to be reset. Ouch... Silicon Knights better get their bug testing team on the job.
