Line Attack Heroes

The first party effort was playable on the show floor, though it was less than impressive.

Line Attack Heroes though absent from Nintendo's Press Conference, made an appearance on the show floor. The game came somewhere out of left field as it hasn't really been discussed in the past and hasn't appeared at any other venues of note.

The game offered some very simple gameplay that was controlled through a combination of both button presses and waggle. At the beginning of the demo, players are treated to a short cutscene introducing the game's key characters as well as the enemies they will be facing off against.

Following the cutscene, players are dropped into an arena along with their companion character. They are tasked with defeating the various enemies located in the arena by attacking them with the A Button sword swipe. The arena also contains a boss which is the players' ultimate goal.

The game's gimmick lies within the goal after defeating the arena's minor enemies. Players must walk around and recruit them into their Line of Attack. Each enemy turned ally will expand the line, enabling players to perform the key move featured in the demo. A long enough line gives players the ability to swing the Wii Remote thus swinging the entire Line of Attack as if it were a giant whip. Naturally, this attack is far stronger than your sword-based attacks and is the optimal way to defeat the arena's boss.

The combat mechanics felt shallow and uninteresting, and the simple goals translated into a demo that was fairly uneventful, predictable, and tedious. While all of the controls worked well and intuitively, the experience was fairly bland. Perhaps with more varied goals and enemies, as well as more interesting play mechanics the game could be far more interesting than the demo lead me to believe.
