And so another Saturday is upon us, and it is time for yet another episode of your favorite video game podcast named "Connectivity", it's Connectivity! Being that this is the last episode to air before Valentine's Day, we felt it would be appropriate to discuss all the things we truly love about Nintendo. There won't be any negativity here folks, so prepare for some gushing from Scott, Daan, and your host, Alex.

Continuing on with our theme of love, it's the seemingly final installment of a segment that I know at least I love to pieces. It's Name That… Pokémon with your host Josh and contestants Kim and Becky. I hope you sure like awkwardness and pineapple juice, because this segment has plenty of both!

We didn't get any listener mail last week, you guys! And you had been so damn good about it up until then. Let's fix this. Send us listener mail by clicking here, and when you're done go ahead and rate and review the show on iTunes.

Love,

Mike

I disagree with the idea that Sony is just offering up the same ole same ole while Nintendo is keeping it fresh.  The last few years seem to be the exact opposite actually.  I don't know, good to stay positive but there's being positive and realistic, and also being positive and drinking the Kool-Aid.  The segment seemed to veer a little too much towards the latter to me.

Also, the link for listener mail isn't there.

Yeah... "Butterflies in my stomach"?.. Really?

Yeah... "Butterflies in my stomach"?.. Really?

Was that at my Nintendo excitement section? If so, hell yeah! Nintendo excitement is what keeps me here. Listen, I could have a segment where I tell you exactly how much the Wii U's current library fails to excite me or how much I dislike Link Between Worlds/SM3DW. In fact, I think I have had those segments. For that 40 minute block, I felt like going the other way entirely and kicking the love into overdrive.

It's connectivity@nintendoworldreport.com. Good catch - I'll try to get the link working ASAP.

Also, when was that said? Was it the Nintendo Direct part? Did I say that? If you want to hear from someone talk about all of the things Sony does right and Nintendo does wrong, there are things I could say and there is a forum for it. This segment was not that forum. Good feedback though. I'll try to keep it a bit more restrained in the future.

The thing about Nintendo series having special significance is that they are guarded, gardened and groomed as national treasures by the company (for better and worse).

Of course you're gonna care more about the series that you grew up with over things that you simply know nothing about. Call it nostalgia, call it fanboyism -- but you will be objectively more excited about some new installment or reboot in 20+ old series that you remember playing as a kid.

Other companies who keep making new series HAVE to keep making them because their old series simply lost relevance. It's not because it's their forum dweller audience catering strategy that they should be commended for-- it's because they shat the bed on their franchises previously and how have to start anew.

And even then, when this thing is technically "new" -- how new it actually is?

"Visceral survival zombie shooter with gripping narrative with old man protecting little girl!" -- oh yeah, THAT is SOOOO new.

"Hard hitting criminal drama where you die in the beginning and now have to affect real world as a ghost to solve crime!" -- OMG SUCH ORIGINAL.

It still falls back on old and reliable with a new wrapping.

On the other hand you have Nintendo that hawks on it's nest with a zeal of overprotective hen and is so proud of being different it often goes against the mold just because it would be too much like everyone else.

Ah, thanks.

I'd have to relisten but I think you said it in the latter part of the segment.  I listen while doing accounting work so I could have misheard.  I do agree with a lot that was said, and while I believe it was Daan who went the furthest I understand he has very different tastes in games than I do.  It's not necessary to discuss what Sony does right (in detail at least, would be interesting from a "what can Nintendo learn" perspective) as I'm not too interested in them and yeah, I'm sure there are Sony fans online somewhere who do a great job at it.  Anyhoo, I did enjoy listening, just wanted to point out things seemed to go a little too far in a few regards.

And Scott is most right, best reason to love Nintendo is the SNES.  I'll drink the whole pitcher of Kool-Aid before I say other.
