With Zach out for a week, enjoying beautiful Hawaii, Grant steps in as we begin talking about the games we enjoyed in 2010, both Nintendo and otherwise.

First, however, comes the news.  Grant talks about his review of Flip's Twisted World, and Nathan talks up the latest DSiWare hit, Cave Story.  The NPD Group sales numbers are discussed, as is an upcoming DSiWare game from WayForward.

Tune in next time for Part 2, featuring the Best of 2010 picks from Neal, Zach, and special guest Karl Casteneda.

Talkback

Great episode, guys. Neal and Nate, you guys still haven't beat Shantae? Wow! Man, I've beaten that shit six times, and I've grown to love it more each time. It may be over quick, but it was also built for speed runs. That shit is tight.

I have to agree with the majority here on the GOTY - Mario Galaxy 2 is also my winner.

Calling it now: Neal's pick is Epic Yarn.

I got that game about a week ago and hope to get to it soon (I have a lot of DVDs I also bought and want to get through first).

If he didn't have such a short memory he'd have seen how obvious it is that it's Dragon Quest IX.

It's a close race. That's the last I'll say of it until the next episode.

How about a Worst Of 2010 podcast?

Everyone'll get off their minds what made those games suck, and why people should avoid them.
It'll be very entertaining for your audience to listen to.

Thanks for letting me join in on this one, guys. Lots of fun! Sorry my audio is kind of iffy, I'll try to fix that if I join you again.

My GOTY is cricket cast.  Waiting for polo cast intensely.

:P:

Kirby is def way better than DQ9 IMO Neal.

Also in regards to my comment.  I meant more so it shows more effort on Sony's part to have a dedicated import section.

I think I can make a significant contribution to that episode.

Awesome.
I mean, REALLY go nuts and rip those sucky games apart!

SundoulosDecember 22, 2010

It almost sounded like Neal dropped an "Epic Meh-key" at the beginning of the Best of Discussion.  Player One Podcast reference?  :D

I think most of our show is tribute, if not reference, to PoP. ;)

I'm finally catching up on a number of podcasts, this one included, after a couple weeks of family activity. The fact that you guys are taking two episodes, at least one clocking in over two hours, makes me glad we aren't doing this on RFN. ;-) The meaty discussion was nice, though, and I also loved hearing Neal's impressions of Fluidity. It's funny that my opinion of DKCR is apparently so closely watched -- that is a game of which I still hold ambivalence despite having played it for several hours. I'll definitely try to complete it after the holidays, along with a few other unfinished games from 2010.

A friend got me Minecraft as a Christmas present... I'm scared but also very excited to play that soon.

In all honesty, it's because we're usually on the same page with platformers, Jonny. Example: You dig Bit.Trip Runner and Super Meat Boy. Those are two of my favorite games of the year. That's why I value your opinion of DKCR.

Though I did pick up DKCR since it was on sale this week. I'm liking it so far, and I'm actually getting acclimated to the motion controls.

I'm fine with the DKCR controls except for that damn "blow" move, I don't think the game would be missing anything if that had been removed altogether.

I actually don't mind any of the motion controls, though the blow move does seem a bit unnecessary. This game is amazing, and I am getting Kirby tomorrow with a gift card... I sense a disturbance in the GOTY list...
