Three quarters of the Newscast crew have played Metroid: Other M, and thus a large portion of the opening half-hour of the show deals with our thoughts and impressions of the game.  Neal defends the game, Zach bitches about the game, and Andy is somewhere in the middle.

Meanwhile, Andy talks about his upcoming review of Ivy the Kiwi?, Nathan regales us with tales of "capturing" deer, and Neal talks about the newest game in the Taziverse in Galactic Taz Ball.

The weekly WiiWare and DSiWare releases are covered, as well as the Virtual Console release of the past two weeks.

Talkback

Can you please up the volume the next time? I can't hear you over the traffic noise even when the iPod is at full volume.

Sorry about that.  It's hard to tell how loud it's going to be when I'm listening to it on headphones in my living room.

I will try to increase the overall volume next time around.

I thought this was one of our strongest episodes overall.

I loved how nonchalant Neal was when he said, "So you play as Bop Louie."

I must admit to being tempted to yell "I NEED AN ADULT" during Nathan's deer shenanigans.

Just shut up and write it in your MyNotebook, you know there's no yelling in the basement.

Nathan, I think AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!! A Reckless Disregard of Gravity would be a perfect game for you.

FZeroBoyoSeptember 09, 2010

Man, all that deer talk was hilarious.  What other strange things will WiiWare present?

This is probably my favorite episode of Newscast so far. I think you guys are hitting your groove!

Why thank you!

I think Nathan was the missing piece of the puzzle. Now, Newscast is Godzilla, and you are Japan.

Neal, it is really funny that you should say that (thanks, by the way) because way back when I first started listening to Newscast this is what I had to say in my iTunes review:

" I enjoy the premise of the 'whatcha been reviewing" section. The current lineup is good, I would stick with the three as opposed to adding another host."

Lol, double standards fail.

Henceforth, I will now be very, very afraid when anyone asks me to step into their basement for whatever reason.  Thanks guys.

Any idea if/when you guys are going to do another Gameclub?

We've talked about it, but now that Andy is getting a DSi, we can do DSiWare games for Game Club, too.
We've also talked about doing a certain NES game that gets crapped on a lot, and even though that breaks the WiiWare/DSiWare spirit, it might be fun to do.

Cool. The underlined sounds intriguing and masochistic, so I'm assuming the game was nominated by Nathan?

We WILL do a Game Club on Shantae when it comes out in 2015.

Thanks for the kind words, and I would also echo the thoughts about Nathan.  Dude's a podcasting natural.

I picked up Dark Void Zero and Soul of Darkness on DSiWare so far, but I haven't really sat down to play either.  And I am definitely down for another GameClub soon.

Also, the idea for the NES game was mine, but it ventures a bit too closely into RetroActive territory to do it as a straight up GameClub feature.  We'll have to find another way, I think.

Question to listeners; do you think we should break the show up into segments, similar to RFN, or do you like the show as a single unbroken segment?

greybrickNathan Mustafa, Staff AlumnusSeptember 10, 2010

As a participant, I think a pee/drink break would be nice on the longer episodes :)

If you are talking about Metroid, I think that the Metroid series has been discussed plenty enough amongst NWR podcasts.

For once, I agree with Mop. :-)

I think segments work better: it keeps each portion focused, if listeners dislike one part they know where to go for the next part, and you guys can rest up between parts.

C'mon, who doesn't love Radio Free Metroid?

Even Radio Trivia has played music from nearly every game in the Metroid series. :)

I generally prefer segments as well.

Hey, I'm not saying the conversations haven't been good, or that Metroid should never be mentioned again, just that variety is the spice of life.

When I said I'd rather play Plants vs. Zombies on the DS than the iPhone, I didn't finish the thought, where I would have said "but I don't think I'll play it on either one of them because the iPad version gets it perfect."

I wish when Neal said Golden Sun got better once you got more Djinn, Zach responded by saying "If I were going to to play it, I'd need to get more gin." It doesn't work as well in print.

The RFN counterpart discussion reminded me of when my friends were figuring out which Seinfeld characters we were, and Robert got stuck being Elaine because the other three of us fit well and they were each the only ones left.

Since your taking requests, can you record the show so that zach plays in one ear and the rest of you in the other so I can turn zach off by taking out the ear bud!  Just kidding.  The show is great keep it up.
